I think the main thing that people forget is that even if all the Mayan computers crash on Dec. 21, there are so few actual running Mayan computers still in use that the impact will be negligable.

Well Israel is calling in their reserves, do you think nuclear Armageddon is a possibility in the next couple of weeks? We might actually beat the deadline of Dec. 21st.

Well I doubt Israel has that many to use and Hamas would have only one if they are lucky and it would be smuggled in from Iran so who knows if it would work.
So a minor nuclear war? Possible. Nuclear Armageddon? Doubtful unless other nuclear states start launching too. |

This all reminds me that LAST month was Harold Camping's Rescheduled Rapture (from its previous April 2012 date).
Has he re-rescheduled? |

Your dates are off. Camping predicted for May 2011, then rescheduled for October 2011. Per Wikipedia,

You know, at least pagans have the excuse of not being told by their gods to cut it out. But for Christians, for example Matthew 24:36 says:
"No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father."Basically it's such a secret that not even Jesus knows it, not even the angels in heaven know it, but Camping does. It's him and God who are in on it. He's soo BFF with God, that God tells him what he didn't even tell Jesus. How cute ![]() Furthermore, Matthew 24:37-39 makes it clear that it's intentionally supposed to be unexpected: 37. As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.So, you know, something that's supposed to be a surprise, God would tell it to Camping. Or to the Mayans. I guess god is worse than the stereotypical village gossip at keeping a secret ![]() Seriously, do these people even read their own frikken bible? |

There are two types of prophesy which should be ignored. Whatever the Jehovah Witnesses say and whatever the Mayans say.

Y'know what? I can actually bring myself to ignore a whole bunch of other types of prophesy.
![]() (Not to mention the fact that there is no "Mayan prophecy" at play here. The idea that the short-form of their calendar running out has any sort of significant meaning is wholly an invention of those who came after the Mayans. The Mayans have enough problems; lets not blame them for something that's not-at-all their fault.) |

It's not a kitteh, it's a grown cat, crying in despair at human stupidity.
![]() Here's an article from that heavy-weight of news reportage, England's Daily Mail, on a mountain that can save beleevers from the coming apocalypse. Only the French gendarmes have decided not to let the woosters up there: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencete...afe-haven.html My favourite bit is how the article is all about how the police don't expect many New Agers to turn up, but that the area will be flooded by sightseers and the curious, followed by a map of France with BIG RED DOT denoting the location of the mountain. I saw what they did there....

It seems pretty obvious to me that the world won't be ending this December, that will be happening next year with all the Comets and stuff. Obviously whoever calculated the Mayan to European date conversion was out by one year. So relax everyone, we've got another twelve months yet.
Cheers. Glad I could help. |

You can see a discussion about it here:
http://forums.randi.org/showthread.php?t=244625 If it lives up to expectations, it should be a "once in a civilisation" event, apparently. |

I'll laugh if, like around 64 million years ago, a huge-*** asteroid slams into us on Dec. 21st.
I'll die soon afterwards, of course. But I'll still laugh. |

What's the kooks excuse going to be when nothing happens ?
Wrong date? Not enough water for their claimed tidal wave? Or the solar flare that didn't? |

Not sure that there's much you can do. In the immortal words of Dorothy Parker, "You can lead a horticulture but you can't make her think"
