I think the main thing that people forget is that even if all the Mayan computers crash on Dec. 21, there are so few actual running Mayan computers still in use that the impact will be negligable.

Well Israel is calling in their reserves, do you think nuclear Armageddon is a possibility in the next couple of weeks? We might actually beat the deadline of Dec. 21st.

Well I doubt Israel has that many to use and Hamas would have only one if they are lucky and it would be smuggled in from Iran so who knows if it would work.

So a minor nuclear war? Possible. Nuclear Armageddon? Doubtful unless other nuclear states start launching too.

This all reminds me that LAST month was Harold Camping's Rescheduled Rapture (from its previous April 2012 date).

Has he re-rescheduled?

Your dates are off. Camping predicted for May 2011, then rescheduled for October 2011. Per Wikipedia,
Quote:
In March 2012, Camping admitted that his predictions were in error, stating: "We humbly acknowledge we were wrong about the timing."
and
Quote:
In October 2012, the Christian Post reported that Family Radio was re-broadcasting recordings of Camping's teachings.
Camping's church collapsed and he suffered a stroke. Family Radio, meanwhile, trundles on.

"As someone who was actually at a Mayan site last year and spent many hours with a Mayan scholar who was my guide at the ruins. I have personal knowledge of what actual Mayans believe what will occur on 12/21/2012. First off he told me that this is not an end of the world scenario yet it is a period of time where all inhabitants on the earth will be experiencing an energy field that only occurs when the planets align in the center of the milky way. There is a three day period of time from mid day on the 21st till the mid day 24th that nothing will work electronically and this will be a period of thought where people will be enlightened to a new level of understanding. Many will not understand what is happening and will go insane, kill themselves, kill others so he said that you should prepair to stay inside for those three days to avoid being victimized. Do not look outside, this is a time to pray and achieve a higher level of consciousness. Ultimately the survivors that pass through this time will achieve a higher understanding of the universe and its powers that can be harnessed with the human brain and to be able to live a much greater existence amongst all people in the planet with the same higher level of enlightenment, intelligence and knowledge. He said the 3 days of darkness are not necessarily literally without light but the darkness they refer to is the evil and madness that will occur amongst the people incapable of achieving a higher level of consciousness or understanding of what is occurring and that is why you must remain inside and pray. He said anyone can achieve this enlightenment but must understand and truly believe it those who don't will not survive. Good luck and Gods speed to all who believe this and to those who don't as well..."

You know, at least pagans have the excuse of not being told by their gods to cut it out. But for Christians, for example Matthew 24:36 says:
"No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father."
Basically it's such a secret that not even Jesus knows it, not even the angels in heaven know it, but Camping does. It's him and God who are in on it. He's soo BFF with God, that God tells him what he didn't even tell Jesus. How cute

Furthermore, Matthew 24:37-39 makes it clear that it's intentionally supposed to be unexpected:
37. As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.

38. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark;

39. and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.
So, you know, something that's supposed to be a surprise, God would tell it to Camping. Or to the Mayans. I guess god is worse than the stereotypical village gossip at keeping a secret

Seriously, do these people even read their own frikken bible?

There are two types of prophesy which should be ignored. Whatever the Jehovah Witnesses say and whatever the Mayans say.

Y'know what? I can actually bring myself to ignore a whole bunch of other types of prophesy.

(Not to mention the fact that there is no "Mayan prophecy" at play here. The idea that the short-form of their calendar running out has any sort of significant meaning is wholly an invention of those who came after the Mayans. The Mayans have enough problems; lets not blame them for something that's not-at-all their fault.)

I've been planning mine since late last year! Turns out I'll be going on a trip to Florida instead, from Dec. 13-24. It'll actually be better though, since I'll be on the beach. Great front seats to watch the 1000 ft wave come crashing down like in that one movie.

Since the galactic plane and the solar plane do not coincide, the planets can NEVER align with the center of the galaxy. Whew! We're good to go onward enjoying human stupidity are every trip around our orbit.

Here's an article from that heavy-weight of news reportage, England's Daily Mail, on a mountain that can save beleevers from the coming apocalypse. Only the French gendarmes have decided not to let the woosters up there:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencete...afe-haven.html

My favourite bit is how the article is all about how the police don't expect many New Agers to turn up, but that the area will be flooded by sightseers and the curious, followed by a map of France with BIG RED DOT denoting the location of the mountain.

I saw what they did there....

It seems pretty obvious to me that the world won't be ending this December, that will be happening next year with all the Comets and stuff. Obviously whoever calculated the Mayan to European date conversion was out by one year. So relax everyone, we've got another twelve months yet.

Cheers. Glad I could help.

You can see a discussion about it here:
http://forums.randi.org/showthread.php?t=244625

If it lives up to expectations, it should be a "once in a civilisation" event, apparently.

I'll laugh if, like around 64 million years ago, a huge-*** asteroid slams into us on Dec. 21st.

I'll die soon afterwards, of course. But I'll still laugh.

What's the kooks excuse going to be when nothing happens ?

The truly prayerful and repentant will have saved us all with their telepathic wishing. Invisible zombie rabbis are suckers for telepathic wishing. It is known.
