No. Crap has aroma and texture and evokes a definite visceral response.

Would any of you consider the architecture of the Nazi regime, and/or the architectural plans/models for building/cities that Speer made for Hitler & were never built, part of Hitler's art?

I've actually seen some of Kinkaid's early stuff (probably after the abortion clinic period ) and the man really did have a talent for painting light. It's too bad he went all religio-sappy and commercial.

Speaking of painting light, there used to be a country and western bar in Long Beach California called the Foothill. It had a rather large mural behind the bar that, during the daytime was a sort of cowboys standing around the chuck wagon near sunset scene. As the bar got dark (when the real sun set, i.e.), the lighting changed within the painting itself so that it looked like the cowboys were illuminated by the camp fire near the chuck wagon. I imagine it was done with black lights or something, but it was remarkable looking.

Hitler made suggestions and changes, but the core ideas were from legitimate German architects and artists. Naturally they followed the Nazi lead, gauche and over-stated being two core elements.

Yes, but Speer was schlock... a very proficient engineer and organizer, his "vision" is really repulsive... and likely would have been even had he not been working for Hitler and trying to give Hitler's vision life. I would argue that there was never a beautiful of good Speer building... only stage sets... (actually not unlike Hitler's art... more stage-set than inspired painting).

The Nazi Art genre is more psychiatric than sophisticated.

Yeah, Kincaid's accidents while deer hunting on the continent are infamous. What was your gramps doing in a B-24, though? Hobbyist?

Ironically he was delivering a payload of magenta acrylic, and Kincaid mistook his Liberator for a competitor's Lancaster.

The real crime is what Kinkaid's sell out did to those early collectors. These people bought early work from a not-well-known, but obviously talented artist and part of the reason would be the expectation that the artist would become well known as a craftsman and the art would increase in value. Instead, the artist became well known as a hack and their art likely decreased in value. Maybe I am wrong, but I would be pissed if I were an early supporter of an artist who sold out so hard as to negatively impact my investment in their art.
