at puma punku the large slabs of rock are in fact sandstone, but the carved rocks are andesite, a volcanic rock comparable to granite on look and hardness. both are between 5 and 7.5 in the mohs scale depending on the composition.

for those not familiar with the mohs scale, talc stone is a 1 and diamond is 10.

cheers

ps. i am also a stone carver and have also worked with stones like granite and basalt. it's madness i tells you... madness.
I'm new to the thread as well.
What do you reckon, then?
Is it possible to carve andesite without modern techniques?

I can do it in HTML, though blink is deprecated. I don't think there are forum code equivalents though.

Last time I checked (a few years ago, so it may have been an old version) the blink tag doesn't work in Internet Explorer.
