Sadly I'm a no-go. But as long as I'm in the country next year, you'll have to put up with me.

Removing Estellea:
How many other people wear costumes that warm to Burning Man? If I were to construct a Burning Man version, I imagine it would have to be adapted for a high-heat enviornment, if it was to be worn for more than 10 minutes. Plus, it would need some LED lighting effects, yes. |

I'm getting there Friday night, so I won't be going to the Star Party. Hopefully I'll get to see some of the Skeptrack stuff, but until I get there and find out what my friend has planned, I won't know exactly what. I'll be in costume part of the time this year, as an Endor Rebel Commando person.
A badge would be great, but I don't have to have one. My real name is Amy Hurley. |

Glad you can join us, once again, Hooloovoo!
Given the low interest level for avatar badges, I'm not gonna bother with them, this year, I'm afraid. Also, my Arthur Dent bathrobe idea seems to have gone awry of late. I might have to draw up a plan B for that portion of my costuming plans.

For those of you who are not able to attend, you can watch most of the Skeptrack programming from Dragon*Con via a live video feed here.

Dragon Con was a blast.
I only saw a couple skeptic track panels, but some of the science track stuff I went to could have easily been skeptic track. I noticed some of the speakers were involved in both. Any way I can watch stuff I missed? I hope they move the Science/Skeptic/Space/etc tracks over to the Westin next year, because: A) The Hilton has crappy AC B) The Hilton has smaller rooms C) (most importantly) I usually stay at the Westin |

I don't know what is going to be moved where, yet. But, one thing I do know: Dragon*Con is going to have to have some serious changes to where things are located over the couple of next years.
The crowd is growing faster than they configured for, this year. And, that is despite the fact that they moved into 5 hotels. |

I never attend cons, but an old friend of mine (Mark Meer) went. I had no idea he was so famous.

I honestly hope they do NOT move the Skeptic Track to the Westin. It is the furthest hotel from anything in the main parts of the convention that almost everyone goes to see. And, one of the reasons the Skeptic content gets standing room only, (I think), is because our location is perfect being in the Hilton which is the crossroads between most all of the convention content. Our room being RIGHT next to the entrance/exit to the Skybridge between the Hilton and the Marriott gains us lots of foot traffic that we probably would never have if people had to walk almost a quarter mile in the heat just to get to our events/panels or talks.
The problem is not the AC in the Hilton, it is what they did to the conference rooms during the re-model a couple years ago. They removed the thick curtains which were about 2 feet off of the windows, those curtains were thick and had an all white backing. So, it reflected the heat away, what they have now is just a very thin all black covering which absorbs heat and radiates it into the room itself. I sent in a multiple page rant about how they could fix most all of the AC/cooling issues if they just replaced and re-tooled how they cover the main conference room window treatments. It would be a cheap fix to alleviate, hopefully, about 80% of the problem. Derek |
