The worst conflicts are the ones least talked about. Journalists prefer to report from places they can get room service. So a minor border dispute between Israel and the Palestinians gets more attention than say, the Second Congo War which killed five million people.
The inverse is the assumption that conflicts that are most reported are the worst. More people die from Islamic terrorism in Karrachi than anywhere else. Parts of Mexico were more dangerous than Baghdad, and Mexico gets millions of tourists a year. The Maoist insurgency in rural India is worse than the Taliban's insurgency in Afghanistan, but gets little mention in the media. Marxist terrorists killed 30,000 people in Turkey during that last two decades, but got little reportage. There is an upside to this though. It's good that nobody knows anything about a lot of terrorists. Terrorism feeds on media exposure. The best thing you could do to fight terrorists is to ignore them and let them get crushed as a bunch of forgotten nobodies. |

The more "help" the Palestinians get from well-intentioned but naive Westerners the worse off they actually get. So paradoxically, I'm helping them more by not giving a ****.

There is some truth to what Virus just said, one of the most whitewashed conflicts in recent memory was the rebellions in Sudan and Ethiopia. They talked a lot about the starving people, but less about why they were starving. They got pushed into the drought regions and much aid sent to them was confiscated by the govt so as not to feed the army he was fighting against.

The highlighted part is exactly what I was talking about. You're not pointing out a contradiction between two things they think. You're pointing out a disagreement between one thing they think and one thing you merely ascribe to them.

The boxer Muhammad Ali changed his name from Cassius Clay because he said it was a "slave name". He was named after Cassius Marcellus Clay, who was a liberator of slaves and changed his name to Muhammad Ali, the Muslim viceroy of Egypt who was a brutal slave-trader of Africans. He gave up the name of a slave liberator and took on the name of a slave trader.
The stupid racist also said blacks and whites should be killed for intermarrying. His great-grandfather was Irish and married a black woman. |

Do these people actually exist? I hang around with a lot of lefties and I'm sure I've never met one.
An Australian example would be the right-wingers who hate welfare for the poor but love welfare for farmers and aluminium smelters. Or the current government which pays lip service to the importance of international law when it suits them but completely ignores it when it comes to refugees coming to Australia. |

A white on black killing elicits outrage, with various idiots attending "million hoodie" marches, hucksters calling for lynch mobs, and the president declaring that the victim was the son he never had. Before the facts are known and before anyone is found guilty through a fair trial. Black on black killings which happen every day don't even raise an eyebrow.

AGW deniers that would say NASA are a bunch of liars and grant whores, yet they use some NASA research because they think the research is supporting their denial.

Feminists who are more interested in gay rights than women's rights. It's not exactly a paradox, but I've always found it weird.
Along the same lines, feminists who want to advance women politically, but not if that woman is a conservative. |

Are there any such AGW deniers? It's possible to believe that NASA generally produces reliable data sets, but still object to the interpretation methodology of some researchers who happen to work for NASA.
I suppose it's possible that there exist some serious AGW skeptics who simultaneously claim that no part of NASA can be trusted, but still trust some part of NASA if it serves their argument. But I doubt you've found any. |

Conservatives think of themselves as the party of small government, but always grow the government.
Conservatives think of themselves as favouring individual freedom, but want to regulate everyone's social lives. Conservatives dislike the concept of separation of church and state, and are concerned about the imposition of sharia law. Conservatives hold Reagan up as a shining example of conservatism when Reagan raised taxes to support social security, made deals to arm terrorists, and cut and ran from the middle east. |
