Question Anyone want to try Absinthe before TAM?

No, not the drink... the show! I've heard really great things about Absinthe, anyone interested in going? Here's a quote from their website:

“Absinthe,” is the critically acclaimed acro-cabaret variety show. “Absinthe” is performed in the round with unobstructed sightlines and in intimate proximity of the world-class artists performing amazing feats of strength, balance, danger and unfathomable flexibility. The New York Times hails “You’re close enough to see the sweat and grimaces needed to produce graceful, gravity defying stunts,” and sums up the entire “Absinthe” experience as, “Imagine Cirque du Soleil as channeled through ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show.’”

Sounds pretty neat to me. They do shows Tues. through Sun. night and there's a group rate for 10 or more people. The tickets are a little pricey individually ($89-$169), but I'll call later today and find out more about the group rate.

I might have to look more into this. If it's too "burlesque-like", I probably won't enjoy it. But, the fact that they only "recommend" 18-years and up implies it probably won't be that bad.

I'll get back to you on this.

Awesome, I'm glad you guys want to go. I feel like I didn't get to hang out with any of you enough last year.

I'll have to call about the group rate tomorrow, apparently their group sales office isn't open on weekends.

First of all, I would rather see showgirls than guys.

But, even then, it needs to be right balance. I don't think I'd care for a show where the half-nakedness of the showgirls is supposed to be the prominent feature.

This show seems to meet or exceed my balance, so far, so perhaps I will join in. And, I'll do that even in spite of its rather unattractive title.

Unattractive? How can that be, when absinthe makes the heart grow fonder?

So, I just got an e-mail about the group deal. It doesn't save us a ton of money, but we'd all be seated together and it's about $15 cheaper. Regular reserved seats at the group rate are $84.04 (I believe that includes taxes & fees). If anyone's interested in VIP seating, those tickets are $112.09 (VIP) and $158.84 (VVIP) with the group rate.

If you're going to try the real thing while you are there (the spirit), I recommend starting with just one in a session.

Not sure if it's enough to put me "out", but it is skirting the edge:

Quote:
When the "Mystere" balancing is done, audience members aren't asked by a scuzzy ringmaster known as The Gazillionaire (Voki Kalfayan) if they are sexually excited. The Gazillionaire says it more like Andrew Dice Clay than with newspaper-scrubbed vagueness, as he imagines out loud how much both women and gay men must have enjoyed the show.
Comparing the ringmaster to Andrew Dice Clay doesn't do this show any favors, for me.

Do we need more people to make this happen? I'm still interested. I want to see a show or two this year, and preferably something new. This looks pretty good, and the prospect of a showgirl landing in my lap should overcome the jetlag (I was nodding off even during the Blue Man Group show, which is not exactly quiet!).

Well, the group rate would be nice, but I'm still going whether we get that many people or not. I'm going to create a Facebook page for it and ask a couple more people if they're interested.

Hi folks! I just came in to say I'm not interested because the people at TAM last year were ********. I was pressured, nay forced to consume large quantities of liquor and buy drinks for the elitists who frequent threads like this. You people go enjoy each others company - I'm thinking of starting a Facebook page for other people who have been **** on by skeptics for the last time and are willing to possibly form an alliance or axis of some sort to change the world.

I am appalled to find out that people were drinking alcohol last year at TAM. If I had known that I never would have attended. I've cancelled my plans for this year and have written several warning letters to local Vegas publications urging them to notify the public of the ensuing debauchery. Good day sirs!

There was lots of nastiness going around - spitballs, swearing, and distinct lack of proper wording.
