The cops & local govt did nothing wrong, aside from messing up paper work.
-They received complaints that he was making claims of violent nature. -They employed a legitimate law in VA for such cases. -They took him in and gave an eval as per that law. -The eval determined he should be further held as per VA law. -He was before a judge within 72 hours as per VA law. -He was evaluated again and determined as delusional, paranoid, & had poor decision making. -He was then released as per VA law because of a clerical error. The system worked in his favor, and against the safety of the community at large. In the Soviet Union & China what sort of similar safe guards were in place? Sorry but if my neighbor is posting possibly crazy nonsense, I don't want them sitting there and debating if he is being "metaphorical", playing around, etc. I want them to err on the side of caution, and have him evaluated by a professional. |

But your question was: "Which of these young men seems more able to deliver upon a promise of violence?" Based on their photos. And either one of them is capable of hurting lots of people -- from driving their car into a big crowd to grabbing a rifle to dropping masonry bricks off a high bridge -- with or without martial arts clubs. So whatever rules we adopt are not going to be -- cannot be -- limited to just those guys who are scary looking or who are former active Marines. So when we look over the safeguards for this type of thing, we had beeter keep in mind that these same standards are going to apply to everyone, and not just some scary "other." |
