Also most of the guns used Illegally in Mexico (70% IIRC, I have a link in an earlier post of mine) came from the US. So the gun trade is in the "wrong" direction.

You can as far as I know, make a bomb without a license or permit, just fill out the ATF form 1 and send it in along with a check for $200. If you use a trust to own it, then you can avoid the local sheriff's signature, fingerprints and photos.

Quote:
National Firearms Act Definitions
Destructive Device
26 U.S.C. § 5845(F)

For the purposes of the National Firearms Act, the term “Destructive Device” means:

A missile having an explosive or incendiary charge of more than 1/4 oz.
Any type of weapon by whatever name known which will, or which may readily be converted to expel a projectile, by the action of an explosive or other propellant, the barrel or barrels of which have a bore greater than one-half inch in diameter.
A combination of parts designed and intended for use in converting a device into a destructive device and from which a destructive device can be readily assembled.
I am assuming that a bomb that is not also a missile will still be a destructive device. The law says the ATF has to consider each application and I have never heard of them denying approval to anyone who filled out the forms correctly. But I would not be very surprised if I was denied authorization to make my own 1000 bomb. What would be my purpose for a 1000 lb bomb? The baddest fireworks display on the block I guess.

The BATFE has an explosive license that people obtain for their businesses that require it. I presume that mining operations would get something like this.
