I haven't seen this posted anywhere else here, so I had to share.

I've actually met a couple of older men that have stated this opinion to me, and they were not being satirical. Guess which party they support?

I make no excuses for the bloated one, but that line has been a running joke in certain circles for at least 50 years.

I remember my uncle saying it wrt Kennedy getting elected over Nixon.

Rush Limbaugh has a problem with women and makes misogynistic on-air rants about them?

Huh. You don't say.

‘When WOMEN Got The Right To Vote Is When It All Went Downhill’

That joke was old when I first heard it in about 1969. The context was how Warren G Harding got elected.

Best ever "The Man Show" was a petition to end women's suffrage. Lots of women signed it!

And his listeners aren't embarrassed to listen to someone who makes $38 million per year tell jokes that were old when the Korean War started?

I will never stop marveling at the infinite variety of human behavior.

ETA: ANd when dim-witted Uncle Jimmy tells that joke at Thanksgiving Dinner and everyone tries to make his or her grimaces looked like forced smiles, Uncle Jimmy doesn't have to say, "I was joking" because everyone knows that he was joking. If Mr. Limbaugh has to explain which parts of his broadcasts are jokes and which are not, that means he is worried that some of his listeners are too bigoted to recognize the jokes.

In some sections of the alt-right-sphere on this thing called the "Internet," woman's-right-to-vote-doomed-us is axiomatic.

The wimminz vote for big government as daddy, replacing fathers, increasing our taxes, and leading to broken homes. Women who work also contribute nothing because they're not in engineering or STEM majors. Instead they got worthless degrees in the humanities (taking slots that could have gone to men) and perform make-work jobs. I wish more of them spoke up here because on certain blogs it just becomes an echo chamber/circle-jerk.

Because they confused "suffrage" with "suffering"?

Or because they are like Phyllis Schlafly and Ann Coulter?

How far back does Limbaugh want to go with this? The 19th Amendment was passed in 1920, but many states had universal suffrage well before that. Wyoming gave women the vote in 1869!

I'd guess it's mostly this along with the wording of the petition. Reminds me of the people who sign the petitions to ban dihydrogen monoxide.

Did they hear the original broadcast when it aired?

Are they able to put it in a context that doesn't make him sound like a bigot or an 88-year-old vaudeville comedian?

I saw that episode. I think it was the former. But awesome TV, nonetheless.

I won't pay for his archive, but it should be there. However, he has a history of suppressing his own archive when he says something troublesome.
