Smile LA & OC 01.20.08 Defending Science & Secularism in DC

CFI-Los Angeles's FEED YOUR BRAIN Lecture Series
presents

Defending Science and Secularism in the Nation’s Capital:
A First-Year Report

Sunday, January 20th, 11 a.m. in Hollywood; 4:30 p.m. in Costa Mesa
$6, or free for Friends of the Center.

In order to promote and defend science and secularism in the development of laws and policies, the Center for Inquiry created the Office of Public Policy in Washington D.C.
The branch is headed by Toni Van Pelt, CFI’s governmental affairs director, who urges Congressional members to base laws and policies on scientific data and empirical evidence as opposed to faith, as well as emphasizing the separation of church and state.
Van Pelt will give a first-year report here on the current bills CFI is following in Congress, the inner workings of the Office, what the future holds, and how CFI members can affect public policies and laws.
She previously served as the first executive director for the CFI-Florida branch. With the development of the CFI Explorers Travel Club, she has successfully married her past career in travel and business with her commitment to skepticism and secular humanism.
