Who is a threat to young Americans?

According to John Walters, Canada

Quote:
will pose a "dangerous threat" south of the border if it brings in laws to decriminalize marijuana and if it brings in laws to decriminalize marijuana.

"It's not my job to judge Canadian policy," Mr. [John P.] Walters said. "But it is my job to protect Americans from dangerous threats, and right now Canada is a dangerous staging area for some of the most potent and dangerous marijuana at a time when marijuana is the single biggest source of dependency-production in the United States.

Walters' Testimony
Quote:
Although the United States enjoys an excellent level of bilateral cooperation with Canada, the United States Government is concerned that Canada is a primary source of pseudoephedrine, which is exported to the United States. Over the past few years there has been an alarming increase in the amount of pseudoephedrine diverted from Canadian sources to clandestine drug laboratories in the United States, where it is used to make methamphetamine.
The issue of

Naomi Klein article: Canada: Hippie Nation

Quote:
Walters calls [publically funded needle exchange programs] "state-sponsored personal suicide."
Another threat to American youth:

Quote:
Homosexuals in Canada are fighting for the right to be legally married, with all the same benefits and responsibilities as traditional opposite-sex couples - something the federal leadership seems to support. In July 2003, the (Canadian) government unveiled draft legislation that would change the definition of marriage to include the unions of same-sex couples.

John Walters forgot to talk to Dr Craig Anderson of the University of Iowa. Otherwise, he would have added violent video games

Quote:
MICHELE FONSECA: He admits to receiving piles of hate mail from 14-year-old boys.

But, in this room, the professor, currently on tour in Australia, is getting a grilling from teenage girls at Melbourne's Methodist Ladies College.

LILLEY STALEY, STUDENT, MELBOURNE'S METHODIST LADIES' COLLEGE: My brother and I, we're not violent in the slightest.

And, so how can you sort of get conclusive evidence when it's just people in different circumstances?

PROFESSOR CRAIG ANDERSON: First of all, how do you know that you're not more aggressive now than you would have been had you not had a different environment?

There's no way that you can know.
Don'tcha just love it? The professor wants a high school kid to prove a negative? ('College' usually means private school in Australia, BTW)

Let's face it, it's all bollocks. I've played every violent video game since Space Invaders, Ngggh!, I even played Doom since it was in beta GAH! and I've never had the urge to... must... kill! KILL PEOPLE WITH CHAINSAW! NYAAAAAAH!

I always thought Canadian news reporters and comedians were the biggest threat to American youth.

Hungary!

Hungary!
The "Hungarian-born" (All quotes from this morning's National Post up here in Soviet Kanuckistan) "Mr. Soros" who is the "Billionaire [who] puts millions behind bid to dump Bush".

Apparently the un-Patriotic Mr Soros doesn't like Ashcroft either.

This kind of big money influence could destroy American Democracy as we know it!

Bush's initiative

to counter the threats to young Americans

On January 29, 2001 George Bush made good on a campaign promise by announcing the creation, by executive order , of a new White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives .

Bush gathered a group of religious leaders in Austin, Texas and said: "This is one of the most important initiatives that my administration will implement."

"In every instance where my administration sees a responsibility to help people, we will look first to faith based organizations that have shown their ability to save and change lives."

Bush signed an executive order he said would clear away "regulatory barriers that make private groups hesitate to work with government.'' Bush directed the departments of Justice, Housing and Urban Development, Health and Human Services, Labor and Education to open faith-based centers within 45 days to help eliminate regulatory and other obstacles to faith-based participation in providing social services.

Who is a threat to young Americans?

If you mean, below 18 years of age...

It's CARS!

Cars kill them!

More than anything else in the world. By a minimum factor of more than twice as many (as cancer). For accidental deaths, drowning is a distant second.

If we're looking for "just non-fatal injuries", falling, getting hit by things, overexerting, getting cut (all very common and every-day), and... CARS.

As far as I can tell, banning privately owned vehicles is the way to go, if you really want to protect the children. We could reduce our dependence on foreign oil drastically at the same time by banning these child killing contraptions immediately.

For the year 1999-2000, according to CDC:
http://webapp.cdc.gov/sasweb/ncipc/leadcaus10.html
Leading causes of death 1-17

#1 is unintentional injury,

I consider a government that incarcerates people because of marijuana much more of a threat to its citizens than the government of Canada.

The number of American adults under correctional supervision hit a record high, in the zealous effort to "Get tough on crime" and with the effective "War on Drugs" waged on American citizens.

Thank you for giving us perspective. I wonder though if Walters and the Bush Adminsitration would not just say that so many MV fatalities and drownings were caused by B.C. bud, so the "War on Drugs/High Americans" must continue.

I think this guy will have to be silenced.

I mean, we can't let everyone onto our evil plan now, can we?

First the wacky tobaccy will be decriminalised, gays will be allowed to marry, and the next thing you know everyone will be bowing down to their Northern Overlords.

Wait, forget I ever said that. We are not going to take over your country, and have no plans to do so.

For at least 10 years the Anti Drug Lords have been warning us of the growing danger of ever more potent pot. They say it is more dangerous than ever because it is so much more potent these days.

They admit that it is freely available in every city in the country. And the sellers have no restraints on who they sell it to or where they sell it.

Then they claim that pot is a "controled substance".

It ain't controlled if it is freely available with no restriction on the potency or purity.

If they want to "control" it, then license the production, potency, and distribution.

Real control instead of pretend control...

Nah. Too rational. Plus the dealers, prison guards, and drug agents would lose jobs, so they are all against any real control...

Ahem.

No.

B.C. Bud has always been one of the highest quality and we grow a friggin huge amount of it.

Due to recent problems with rental homes being used as grow ops, it is now law that you have to disclose if your home has been used as a grow op when selling. There are some communities in B.C. where 20% of the rental homes are grow ops.

As soon as you Mericans stop buying the stuff, we'll stop growing the stuff.

(And for the reocrd, I've never touched any illegal drugs, only alcohol).
