Woman killed when couple shoots at each other

Story here.

Quote:
Police said that the couple was involved in a dispute, and afterward, Karen Dion grabbed a shotgun and fired it at her husband. Gary Dion then retrieved his own firearm, and, after being confronted by his wife, who still had her shotgun, he shot and killed her, police said.
Just because it has been a while since we have had a gun control thread...

Obviously, the husband had better gun control than the wife.

Gun nuts, or nuts with guns? It's getting progressively more difficult to make the distinction.

How the hell did she fire first with a shotgun and miss?

Ready, fire, aim.

ETA:

Remember what I wrote in a recent post about the prevailing attitude that guns are a viable solution to social ills??

You are three times more likely to be killed by someone you love than by a stranger. Statistics don't lie.

When will we join the rank of civilized nations by banning relationships?

You see, if that was Australia, they would have had the shotgun, but no handgun.

She could have fired slugs from the shotgun instead of buckshot or birdshot. Also, the shot requites some distance to spread out. If she was too close, it would have been easy to miss the intended target.

There should be a dueling banjos player embedded in threads like this.

Personally, I wouldn't use anything less effective than a LAW for a domestic dispute ...

Just remember: "guns don't kill people, people kill people"

No wait, better yet: "if we outlaw guns, only the criminals will have guns"

yet we coulda saved 2 lives right there. I'm thinking maybe that's kind of important, but that's me.

At least this way she didn't die a criminal (except for the bit about pointing your shotgun at your husband and firing being possibly technically dodgy)

And the soundtrack to this story is Tina Turner, wailing,

What's love got to do with it?

Maybe I'm just twisted (okay, no 'maybe' about it) but I instantly thought of a new commercial for a snowblower company when I read this thread.

On revised data, having a row in the house with guns there too just got 50% safer. w00t.
