The Royal Road to Card Magic.

If "The Royal Road to Card Magic" was published for the fist time today, what else would go into it and more importantly what would be left out?

If it was published for the first time today it would never be published. Card College would have come first.

Klase stole my answer! Seeing as how RR has arguably influenced the card magic landscape more than other single book, it's difficult to imagine what things would look like without it. Honestly, I never read straight through the whole text, and the attention RR gets relative to ECT (a book I constantly refer back to) is scandalous. Some sleights would need to be updated (e.g., Top Change) and others included (e.g. the Elmsley Count).

Is this exercise an indirect way of motivating people to answer a slightly different question? What should an introductory course in card magic include?

With the penchant for clever names in magic today, the title Royal Road to Card Magic would have been left out. It would have been called something more clever, like Railroaded Into Card Magic or Give My Hugards to Braue.

Or something more contemporary like 'Street Cards' or 'Card Magic for Street Magicians'. Maybe 'Royal Road to Street Magic'.
