I don't hate Giuliani, although I can certainly see that there are valid comparisons with fascism in that a very strong part of his political philosophy seems to be "tough government." (In foreign policy and in his cracking down on small crimes in NYC under the fixing broken windows theory and whatnot.) I don't even hate Hitler. Hitler was a horrible horrible person, but I also believe that he honestly thought that killing millions of people for being inferior was the right thing to do, and thus his existence was more a tragedy on the global scale than something deserving of hate. But I do hate Ron Paul. (Although not in a personal sense but more in the sense that one might hate spinach or rainy days.) I don't hate Ron Paul for his policies, (although I think his policies would cause significant harm) and indeed at first I sort of appreciated him for adding a new voice to the political scene. (In that I sort of half-heartedly support Ralph Nader, I feel that in libertarians are often "comrades in arms" in the fight against the two party system.) I hate Ron Paul for one very simple reason. His fans.
Many of Ron Paul's fans (although you personally are not a terribly egregious example of this except for the picture you just posted) propagate a very dangerous and horrible message. They are not merely saying that Ron Paul's policies are better than everyone else's, but rather they are saying that everyone else is evil. This "everyone but Ron Paul sucks" position is the worst possible thing that can happen to democracy. Compromise is the very soul of democracy. Some of the people on the Internet take this so strong as to feel that even Ron Paul is pretty evil, but that the entire system is so irrevocably broken that it needs a big shake-up to be made better. It is this sentiment, and not just power hungry politicians, that leads to people like Hitler taking power. (Or the Ayatollah, or Stalin, or whatever.) All this "Ron Paul r[evol]ution" business is just such a horrifying display of political cynicism that it makes me vomit with rage. And I don't think these people are simply a bunch of nuts who have latched themselves onto a poor defenseless candidate who only wants to do his thing to help America. The argument could of course be made that I am mistaken, but my impression is that he does think the government is rather horribly ********** up. Perhaps it's merely because he is a libertarian, and thus feels purely on philosophical grounds that the Federal government should be hugely cut back, and that can be easily confused with thinking that the Federal government should be hugely cut back because it is irrevocably corrupted. But time and time again Ron Paul at least seems to associate himself with people who are saying the government is a horrible hopeless mess, and vaguely skimming through his articles hosted on LewRockwell.com he comes pretty close to saying it too. Of course, this position is something a lot of Nader supporters hold too and to a lesser degree supporters of the mainstream political parties, and it is largely for this reason (although the spoiler effect doesn't hurt) that I can only partly support Ralph Nader. But, (although I admit that it might simply be that Ron Paul's supporters are very loud at the moment; or alternatively, it might be because just like libertarianism can exacerbate Ron Paul's appearance of being hypercynical, Nader's progressivism can promote more of an optimism by showing that the Federal government can be made better and merely needs to change its direction) I feel that Ron Paul is on such a hugely broader scale in cynicism that it just fills me with a deep rage. |

Wow, Lady Liberty needs to tell what sort of workouts she does for her legs. They are thicker than my torso.

Improved a bit on it:
![]() And could some art student please tell us the rules of symbolism? I'm not sure, but I suspect that symbolism follows a set of objective rules on how to compose the picture. Not just a hodgepodge of everything you just want to say or like. The original picture is clearly a violation of "less is more". |
