Hillary's Horse in the Race - 2nd Place Finish - But "Dead Last"

The contest to become the Democratic nominee for President has become, in the eyes of many, a real "horse race", but Hillary Clinton's pick to win the Kentucky Derby, Eight Belles, met with a sad end today:

From ABC News.com

Quote:
May 03, 2008 7:05 PM

Tragedy struck the first filly in the Kentucky Derby since 1999, as Eight Belles went down on the track after her second-place finish today, broke two ankles, and was euthanized.

Showing a sisterhood with the female horse, Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., during a trip to Louisville this week had said she was going to bet on Eight Belles to win, place, and show.
A rather cruel prize for a horse that may have put a few bucks in Hillary's pockets if she did, in fact, actually bet on Eight Belles to place.

Wouldn't the non-species-traitor part of the world regard that as an endorsement?
