Post FairDeal Homeopathy

I posted a comment on the May 9, 2008 edition of SWIFT about the article linking to the FairDeal Homeopathy site - "I sense a joke....." (sorry, I don't think I can post links yet).

I speculated on whether or not the site was a spoof, as the article suggested, or whether the site owners would actually make a profit on it. It was quickly followed by a comment from the site designer pointing out that, yes, the site is genuine and they will take payment.

If you examine FairDeal's site, it's quite obvious that they've taken every precaution to be up-front and honest about what they're selling, almost to the point of saying that their products are pointless.

This still leaves me on the side of thinking this is wrong. To my mind, it's still taking advantage of the ignorance of others.

On the other hand, hypothetically, what's to stop each and every one of us setting up a similar service and diluting the market (thus making it more effective? ). What if we donated any profit to JREF? Would that be wrong? Would it serve to educate anyone browsing for homeopathy remedies?

What do you think?

Arthur

Here is your link http://www.randi.org/joom/swift/swif...2008-2.html#i7

As for what is right and wrong about taking the money from believers, that is a good question for which there is no good answer.

I can't see anything wrong with it. They tell the truth. They strongly urge you to see a doctor for anything that might be important.

If someone *still* wants to send them money, I can't see why they should turn it down.

I have absolutely no problems at all with it, spoof or not. It's the ultimate in freedom of choice - we tell you it's BS and works, if it works at all, via placebo, and you still buy it.

There is no misrepresentation, people still get something that makes them feel better. Everyone wins.

And no, it's not me running the site!

Nor I.
But I'm considering starting a remote exorcism service.
Just email me and I'll remove malicious spirits from your property from here. Takes a matter of seconds.
Only requirement is that you believe I can do it.
