American Priorities: Gas or Gun?

Quote:
A car dealership in the United States is offering a free handgun with every vehicle sold.

Max Motors in Butler, Missouri, says sales have quadrupled since the start of the offer.

Customers can choose between a gun or a $250 (£125) petrol card, but most so far have chosen the gun.

..."We all go to church on Sunday and we all carry guns."

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7416120.stm
Which to choose is ridiculously obvious. With a gun you can get free gas anywhere.

Quote:
Mr Muller said that every buyer so far "except one guy from Canada and one old guy" chose the gun, rather than the gas card.
We call those two "victims."

I'm pretty sure I've seen at least one thread if not two about this, albeit not in this context. That said, hello Gravy!

Hey! What's the price for Benzin in Germany these days? How about Diesel?

Why don't they just fit all cars in America with several guns, a bit like the B-17s in the good old days, when people weren't such wusses?

Little Jimmy would have a great time on those long Sunday trips to Grandma's; switching at will from his PSP to real life tail-gunner.

I guess it depends on how much the gun is worth. If it is worth more than $250 then you could conceivably sell the gun and then use that to buy gas..... or blow it on lottery tickets.

No doubt. $250 for a Hi Point is a rip off. $250 for a Kimber 1911 is one hell of a deal.

That said, they're offering a Kel Tec .380 which pretty much retails for around $250 so it's a wash anyway.

The gun will last you for many years while the gas will be gone after a few months.

Yes, but the killing options with guns are limited to bullet wounds and blunt trauma if you club someone with it. Whereas a vehicle of any size can inflict much more varied injuries. I'd have to say that for sheer killing power, the vehicle and the gas that powers it offers more than a mere gun. And, of course, you needn't use the vehicle at all--the gasoline itself is both combustible and poisonous, and one can suffocate on the fumes.

Don't ask!
Ranging from 1,40€ for Benzin (Super) to 1,50€ for Diesel (about 2,30$). I don't drive though, so I'm not up to date and those prices are from around the last weekend.

Also, after some calculation, that comes down to about 60$ per cubic foot.

Well, I can see the advantages. You'd definitely get to the front of the Communion line, for starters. Secondly, no priests are going to try anything funny--you know what I mean. Thirdly, when the time comes for that stupid handshaking thing, no little old lady's going to thrust her gnarled claw at you and tell you you're a sweet young man--you get enough of that sort of remark from the priest, anyway. Fourthly, you'll be in a position to do something about that stained glass window that's been bothering you for years. St Idochelphias may have been martyred by being torn apart by monkeys in a Roman arena, but those are distinctly New World monkeys depicted...shoot out the window in the name of iconographical accuracy. And finally, with a gun you will not have any problems getting out of the parking lot after Mass.

Diesel is as expensive as regular these days. But US Gas is still pretty cheap in comparsion, so I wouldn't pick the Gun either:

Quote:

001. Eritrea $9.58
002. Norway $8.73
003. United Kingdom $8.38
004. Netherlands $8.37
005. Monaco $8.31
006. Iceland $8.28
007. Belgium $8.22
008. France $8.07
009. Germany $7.86
010. Portugal $7.84
108.
United States $3.45

I always wondered why God doesn't provide security for churches, mosques, and synagogues. It wouldn't have to be fatal to the miscreants, just a stern reminder to keep them in line, such as a small lightning bolt to the groin. "Don't Tase me, God!"

Given the hundreds of millions of church visits by Americans each year, your chance of being involved in a church shooting is only marginally greater than your chance of being eaten by a shark in your bathtub. I'm sure many more people die of heart attacks in church each year than get shot. That's why when I go to church I carry a defibrillator instead of a gun.

BTW, the guy quoted above doesn't say "we all carry guns in church."

Well you know I heard God can be pretty moody and has a pretty bad temper. If you're not prepared to protect yourself you could wind up victim to a black plague, washed away in a flood, or just plain damned to hell. That's why I always pack when I go to church. It's just the way I roll.

My mother-in-law is from Butler, and we go down every year for a big family reunion. Typical rural Missouri town. Lots of pickups with gunracks.

I think Missouri would be one of the most armed nations if it was a country. That's why no one trys to invade us. Well, that, and the fact there's not a lot here worthy of having other than corn, soybeans and lead mines.
