One of the few honest journalists on American TV who didn't let a personal or corporate agenda get in the way of his profession (at least most of the time).

RIP Mr. Russert.

Well, I wasn't going to say it, but wow, could he ask softball questions. I never cared for his style or the directions he took in his questioning.

I'm sorry he's dead, because while you are alive there is always hope for improvement, and 58 is too young for a person to die.

Tim Russert was not someone I'd heard of prior to this week, simply due to lack of exposure, but he sounds like one of the 'good guys'; 58 is indeed too young, my father died at the same age. I was at the Bruce Springsteen concert in Cardiff last night, and Bruce dedicated Thunder Road to him and his family.

Quote:
Introduction before "Thunder Road"

"I'd like to do this tonight for a long time friend of the E Street Band who passed away suddenly.

"Tim Russert was an important unreplaceable voice in American journalism. I watched him hold our politicians feet to the fire on many Sunday mornings. He was always a strong voice for honesty and accountability in American government .. but beyond that he was a lovely presence, a good father, husband, and good guy. He was a regular at many E Street Band shows and I'm going to miss looking down and seeing that big smiling face in the crowd.

"We send this out all the way back to the states tonight for his son Luke, his wife Maureen, his dad Big Russ , and all the Russert family.

"Tim , God Bless You, We will miss you..."

They mentioned Springsteen's quote and played that song at the end of Meet the Press this morning as they showed several photos. Very touching show all around.

One of my favorites was a close up still of him pointing his finger. It seemed so incredibly out of character -- until they panned back and he was pointing at a sock puppet.
