Cell phones and popcorn

I know this is probably the wrong part of the forum for this thread. I am posting it here, because it was discussed in a conspiracy thread months ago. Apollo was taken in by it, lots of possible answers were given. Here is the scoop.
The maker of the video explains, that editing was the trick. To sell blue tooth, no less.

It's not the wrong part, just the wrong level. I'm moving it up to general conspiracies.

Apollo20? As in Frank Greening? Really?

I must have missed that thread. I'm wondering how anyone could possibly be fooled by such an obvious hoax.

Hmm... So it was viral marketing all along? They got the "viral" part right, but they suck at the "marketing". He claims that the next round is coming up, but why come forward now? Who cares about the "next round", if we already know its a hoax? And we still don't know what the product is.

As for his claim that it wasn't supposed to scare people, what effect was he hoping to get? His company sells something with bluetooth and he (falsely) shows that cellphones emit "something" that can pop popcorn. I think it's obvious what he's trying to do. What a liar.

It is an irresponsible way to market a product.

Next up will be a series of viral videos for their bluetooth keyboards. We get to see a bunch of gangrenous, ulcerated fingers supposedly caused by use of a regular keyboard.

First off: Thanx Chill, for placing it in the right level.

Yes Frank G., who is no longer at JREF. Frank was the perfect example, of why smart people believe weird things. Sadly, the answer is a question. Who freak'n knows? I can't locate the original thread, it was brought up in, by Frank himself. It was off topic for the thread, and may have been sent to Ahh...
The ideas proposed, for how the hoax was performed were quite entertaining.
Soaking the corn, lasers, etc...

The same way most conspiracy fantasists are fooled by stupid conspiracy theories: lack of critical thinking skills.

The original thread by Apollo20 was started in the conspiracy theories subforum and moved elsewhere but here it is.

Wasn't a thread. Go read his ban notice. Quite surprising to see how low a bitter old woo can stoop.

Funny but I have met one truther in my life and that was in Texas and I have met one nutcase that believes in the NWO and lizard people and that was in Michigan...don't think I'll ever meet a 9/11 truther to give any information. They are an internet phenomenon and there are not many off of the internet.

I feel like buying a VW now...

Seriously though, I don't know how many sent videos I received on YouTube from people who actually thought three cell phones ringing would pop kernels.

I appears that VW did not create that ad.

Sadly not. I wish they did though. It's a brilliant ad. And I can think of no better way to counter Radical Islamic terrorism than by exploiting it to advertise materialistic western products!
