Creating tricks by accident
Here's a couple things that have happened to me which seem like potential candidates for the designing of a magic trick
* Once I put a cd in my portable discman. Lets say it was a classical music cd (I don't remember exactly what it was). A Prokofiev piano concerto. As the discman starts playing, I hear the Foo fighters instead. I stop for a moment, open the discman and see the cd. It is the Prokofiev Piano concerto. It's an original CD, not a copy, which I have listened to many times so the crazy option of an original classical music cd that was misrecorded with some other music, is out of the question. I close the discman again and play the music. Again, Foo Fighters music. I go like "what the hell". I open the discman once again and take the cd out. At that moment, I can see the Foo Fighters lying cd underneath. I had accidentally put a cd on top of another, and the discman simply read the one underneath. * I have a small bottle of pills. I take three pills a day. One day, I take the bottle and open it. I stop when I realize it has the "protection seal", completely intact. And yet I know it's the bottle I've been using before, which I had already used before. But yet there it is, the seal, neat and intact right before my eyes. I also know I've used this bottle because its lighter (since I've taken pills already). At this point you may say "Looks like you haven't taken enough pills, Ron". No, here's what happens: When I twist the cap to open the pills, sometimes the twisting movement will pull the protection seal with it, keeping it within the cap and out of sight. So every time I open it, the seal is drawn inside the cap, perfectly intact. If you're a distracted person you may not notice that the seal wasn't there the first time you opened it. but then one day, you twist the cap in a slightly different way and the seal is not drawn but stays on the bottle. And so, voila. Anything like that ever happened to you that led you to design a trick? |

I was once moving stuff around my apartment when my VCR across the room suddenly ejected it's tape (quick, what decade was this?). Scared the crap out of me. I looked around and saw that I had just put a pile of papers on top of the remote, but the remote didn't have an eject button. After some investigation I found out that if you press the record button while a write protected tape is in the VCR, it will eject.
I wasn't able to work it into an act, though. Another time I was noodling around with Elmsley counts and Jordan counts and just accidentally happened upon a sequence of moves that is the version of Twisting the Aces that I do now. People seem to like it. A |
