No, no, no!!!!! Confederacy of Dunces movie

Starring Will Ferrell as Ignatius J. Reilly and Drew Barrymore as Darlene.
I want to kill myself. Or Drew. Maybe I should kill Drew instead. That would be
better. Oh, God I'm so depressed

I know what you mean. I felt the same way when I saw "The Cat in the Hat" movie promo. I wanted to kill Drew Barrymore, too.

Will Ferrel?

Oliver Platt, maybe, but it will make a horrible movie no matter who is in it.

Oh, dear. That's very sad.

Will Ferrell? I just can't picture it. Who on earth could possibly have thought that this would be a good idea? They probably plan to put him in a fat suit.

What is it with bad casting lately? I really like the actors in the BBC version of Coupling, but I think the American version is very badly cast. Aren't casting directors supposed to be the "experts"? Why is it that everyone seems to look at this and go "huh?"

I haven't noticed Ignatius posting here in a while. I wonder what his opinion of this development is?

EDIT: The website I found also mentions Lily Tomlin, Mos Def and Olympia Dukakis.

Wow, thanks for noticing. I posted my indignant, foul-mouthed reaction to this news on Renata's board. As you can imagine, I think that the casting director should be disembowled with a small, dull pen knife for this abomination.

If it is even 1/20 as bad as I'm guessing it will be, I'm changing my name to "Mr. Wiggly". HS is right, this would be a very difficult book to put on film even IF they had done a good job at casting.

I don't know about WF as Ignatius either. Doesn't seem like a good choice. Maybe they just want to cast a currently hot actor instead of following the book.

Check out this interview.

They oughtta cast you for the lead role, old man! Your name fits so perfectly too... I mean, the main character is a guy named Ignatius, and your username is Ignatius, and you're a character, and you've even read the book!

It just occurred to me, is Ignatius really your name or have you been deceitful?

Walker Percy, if he were alive, would never have let this happen to Toole's book.
