From Jesus to Christ - the First Christians

I'm currently watching this PBS Frontline documentary. It's about Jesus Christ and the advent of Christianity. It seems to be biased in that it seems to take as a fact that Jesus lived, but it's still incredibly interesting. Anyone else seen it?

Have not. I'd be interested in seeing how it jives with the writings of Bart Ehrman. (Lost Christianities and many others)

Ehrman is in the "there likely was a Jesus" camp, identifying him as a rabbi in the Apocalyptic tradition. Probably a charismatic fellow who attracted sufficient crowds to worry the Romans, and annoy them mightily when he started talking about being the King of the Jews....

That is hardly a bias. You, on the other hand, might want to check your own baggage at the door. That snarky remark aside, thanks for the tip, I'll try to catch the program, if not on this try on the next broadcast.

Thanks for the link.

I agree with DR. To make a documentary questioning the existence of Jesus using leading scholars on the subject would be a bit like trying to make a documentary questioning evolution using leading biologists.

You can view it from the website, if you've a mind to.

Thanks for the link, SK.

I would also like to re-iterate the reference to Dr. Bart Ehrman's work on the early Christian religion. Very interesting stuff.

I think I saw that one when it first aired (earlier this year? last year?), and I remember it being very good, if a bit slow in places. I have just started working my way through Ehrman's Lost Christianities and Lost Scriptures (I have read two of his other books). Ehrman's opinions seem to have changed a bit over time, I am not sure if he considers Jesus so much of an apocalyptic as much as Paul or John.

Roman annoyance wasn't the reason why Pilate crucified Jesus. Neither did Jesus go around saying he was king of the Jews. Haven't you read the Gospel accounts?
