2012?

Okay, Im sure there may be other threads covering this subject but I am fairly new to this site so I didn't get to see them.

The main question I have is...What is up with people thinking the world is going to end in 2012?

Also I wasnt sure if this was the right area to post this thread but i posted it here anyway.

Excellent! That gives me a good 3 years to work up into a panic!

I'll start out chewing my nails and by the time that year rolls around, I'll be holed up stark naked in a dilapidated warehouse surrounded by illegal firearms, MREs, tons of tinfoil, water filtration equipment, and scrawling "2012" thousands of times on the walls, ceiling, and floors in ferret's blood.

Don't forget to work up everyone around you into an absolute hysterical panic too. Thats the only time CTers get to have fun, when everyone is panicking. I recommend you randomly start screaming "RUN FOR THE HILLS" as we get closer to the date.

As mentioned, there are several here. There are also several threads at the Bad Astronomy/Universe Today forum (http://www.bautforum.com/) discussing this topic. In particular, I would direct you to this post which contains an index to the threads discussing 2012 on that site.

Universe Today
Bad Astronomy blog and website.

I would say welcome to the board, but I have not been here much longer than you. :|

I plan to go out and convince the gullible ones to give me their soon to be worthless money and valuables and I will not feel a bit guilty about it because I will have taught them a life lesson for when the next regular scare comes around. At that time, they can do the same with the next batch. It's kind of a "pay it forward" with a twist.

The 2012 frenzy had already had one very bad effect: it has given Roland Emmerich a subject for another one of his crappy disaster films.

Probably the same way they acted during the turn of the millennium. "Oh... that's it??...". You know, sheepish embarrassment about all that worry for nothing.

[Puts on tinfoil hat]But then, you'll look around and notice that all the most holy, righteous people are no longer there ... [takes off tinfoil hat]

Hey! I thought this whole "Rapture" gig was supposed to be a good thing!...

Bloody Mess is great. No impact on play, but adds Color to the game.

I also have Odious Conversationalist and Cutting Commentator. I'm a talker, not a fighter.

Somehow, though, the former always seems to lead to the latter...

Actually, in Fallout 3, Bloody Mess gives you a 5% damage bonus across the board.

Once we make it past 2012, though, the wackier Christians still have 2033 to worry about. After all, if Jesus is really into round number anniversaries (and for some reason considers 2000 a more perfect number than, say, 1000 or 5000), wouldn't he be as likely to make some big noise on the anniversary of the whole crucifixion/resurrection dealie as he would for his b-day?

If truly was he into numbers then He can choose 3033 or alternatly 3333...

My interpretation of the Bible is this -

God's throne has two buttons installed.

One is labeled "Apocalypse" and the other "Cake." Every morning he has to press one.

Needless to say, I think our planet is safe from divine retribution so long as the celestial bakeries keep churning out that sweet angel food.

This is the stupidest of CT's... I mean if it's true... then what does it matter? We'll all just blink out of existence, and there's nothing we can do about it. And no one will be around to say "I told you so."

If it's not true, then oh well, I guess I gotta pay for my son's college after all.

If anything you're better off preparing for it NOT to end. Because if you prepare for it to end, and it doesn't, then you're in deep doo-doo. But if you prepare for it NOT to end, and it doesn't, then you're ahead of everyone else and you win.
