Why insult children?
I don't "surely know" any such thing I take it that you're implying his track record equates to someone of at least adequate intellect for the role of POTUS If so, please provide examples that illustrate this notion If not, please explain what you are implying Thank you |

Ummm... this thread is titled 'Bush will write a book', so it seems rather pertinent to focus on his literacy skills or lack thereof
No, of course I don't - as to do so would be to add straw to what seems nothing more than a ridiculous attempt to obfuscate the issues, one of which is, I think, that it is absurd to suggest that an idiot like Bush - with the perception and attention span of a goldfish - can be expected to accurately document his term in office |

I take it you guys are aware of the definition of a simpleton? Are you seriously suggesting Bush is a simpleton? This is simply hyperbole.
Look, as naive and pointless/unwinnable a battle as it may seem, I am someone who wants very much to try to turn political discussion/activity in a more civil direction. I'm a conservative. Many conservatives are being bitter and now "giving it back" to the Obama and the left. They are doing so because they are angry that the left gave Bush such a vicious beating the last 8 years. And the left feels it was fair to do that because the right gave it to Clinton, hardcore, all through the 90's. And the left gave it to Bush/Reagan.. and the right gave it to Carter.. and the left gave it to Ford and Nixon. It goes back forever. This has gotten to be ridiculous, to me. It's like the constant ongoing issues between the west and the middle east. We can go back throughout history and point "but you did this first!" till the end of time. It accomplishes nothing. I'm trying to break the cycle, at least for myself. I'm not going to give it back. I am very disturbed and angered by what I've seen over the last 8 years, and even in this thread. But I won't pass any further judgement, and I apologize if I was on a high horse again. But I'm sick of this vicious back and forth. And I'm sick of it being personal, and insulting, back and forth. It's childish. I'm sorry if you disagree with me, but that's how I feel. I wish we could all rise above this sort of thing. |

Perhaps I do not know the definition of simpleton after all, everything I am finding is basically "lacking in common sense or intelligence" when I have always thought it meant something much worse, such as being so low in intelligence as to have it be debilitating.
But I know, that would still apply to Bush. Ya, ya.

Bush is getting his beating, not for conservatism, but for partisanship above statesmanship, deceit, incompetence, and promoting the idea that non-intelligence is a virtue. Anybody thinking about being bitter about this might want to take a close and careful look at what Bush actually accomplished.
Did anybody see the Daily Show excerpts from Bush's final press conference where he identified some of his 'disappointments'? I suspect that his book will be more of the same. But heavily edited to remove all the funny. |

I take you are aware of the definition of poetic licence?
Yes So what? Tip: jumping to the defense of an infamous fool and liar is probably a misdirection of your time and energy What issues/aspects of life/etc are at the top of the list of things you want to conserve? And many liberals are dancing in the streets, over-joyed that there are clear indications that the majority of adults in one of the post powerful nations in the history of humanity do not necessarily endorse the barbarism and stupidity of the last eight years Their anger s a problem that only they can deal with Really? How do you know? Cool ![]() Maybe you could make a start by suppressing the urge to make knee-jerk, angry, reactionary responses at a time when others are celebrating the beginning of a new period of hope |

as I recall, you and I agree on Israel and guns (for us). I fear Shrub is not something we agree on. I think (in reality) that he is at best mildly competant in the !00-110 IQ range and without a deep thought in his mind. The things he "did" were actually done by Cheney and Rove and their serviles, not Shrub. History will decide which of us is right on that. I am in no fear of it's ultimate decision. |

Ok, he's not quite a simpleton. But he's on the level to manage a used car lot not be the POTUS. Bush is on the level of Sarah Palin. People you laugh at and not respect. His brain was mashed with booze. Palin's was mashed with religious cults and wonderful views of Russia from her house

…OK; sum total including the aircraft that may or may not ‘technically’ be “supersonic” but are in spitting distance...and rounding up...the grand total is...............carry the 1: yup, 0 hours. |

Personally...well...no...
Though, I know a guy who's an acquaintance of a friend of my second cousin who is licensed to navigate go-carts on controlled and maintained tracks for modest profit (but really, all the money is in the side bets, but no one is supposed to know that part, so keep that on the down-low) and he says that once they remove the governors, those carts move pretty damn fast. Now this guy's older brother used to do the same. He worked hard to be the first in his family to pass all the tests that are required to race go-carts; a lot of reading required...not to mention all the testing. But he was a reasonably bright guy so it proved no problem. Now after this older brother's racing career was over by several years, he decided he wanted to run a racing team. He figured he had some experience with driving and racing and he had run a remote-controlled race car team for a few years just after he gave up the go-carts so he decided to give it a go. What he and many others didn't take into account was that some form of dementia or brain damage from cocaine and alcohol binges had robbed him of what little common sense and judgment this retired go-cart racer had begun with and, as it turned out, the more savvy and less honorable members of the racing team he tried running later on just twisted him this way and that. Well, before you know it, that once functional, now retired go-cart racer of simple wit found himself over his head and the racing team sinking fast. Anyway, this guy did the only thing he knew to try to get things turned around: he prayed on it. He tried to spin all of his poor management choices to the ownership committee and for a while, this bought him some time. Inevitably though, his incompetence proved so glaring that when his contract ended, even trusted employees who had supported his efforts to run this team wouldn't be picked to take over when his contract was up. Last I heard, he was trying to write his story of turmoil and conviction in leadership. Wouldn't you know it though; he could barely string a coherent sentence together and the project drags on still...... ...but I digress...why do you ask? |

So you've logged no time in any high performance combat aircraft, nor have USAF instructors even cleared you to do so.
Is any of this because you aren't smart enough? |

You’d have to ask my wife, therapist, imaginary friend Bill, or the fools who gave me my degree to get a fair assessment. Of the cuff, I'd insist that I might in fact not be smart enough. I certainly lack the discipline, drive, or desire requisite to be cleared. Truth be told, I very probably couldn't be cleared medically for any of a variety of reasons. I'd never try...my skill set doesn't fit.
I like jets. I admire those who fly them. For many reasons I am unqualified to do so myself...maybe the go-carts, though. |

So you accept that you need to be smart to be a fighter pilot?
Do you also accept that USAF instructors use all due diligence to ensure that Americas most advanced weaponry is operated by those with the appropriate mental and physical capacity? |

Indeed (at least the plausibility and probability that a certain level of intelligence is required, though I can't personally certify that as fact).
Will you accept that even the most intelligent of fighter pilots could fall prey to greatly lessened mental capacities as a result of the passage of time, chemical use/abuse, some form of dementia, or some combination thereof and given the fact that his last military certified flight occurred over 35 years ago? ...this is fun, but you're going to need to circle in on your point quickly or I'll have to suspend the exchange until tomorrow...nearing sleepy time rapidly... |

No.
In fact, Chuck Yeager flew his final supersonic flight 50 years after his first one at the age of 74. This in spite being a rather hard drinker in his own youth. George W. Bush, has served as a two term president, led the country through one of its darkest hours, overseen two successful military campaigns and has enjoyed an unbroken string of electoral victories since first defeating Ann Richards for the Texas governors chair. And in addition to keeping himself mentally engaged, he has kept up a regimen of regular exersize. From a clinical standpoint, he's done everything a man his age needs to do to maintain his mental acuity. Instead of arguing that Bush's mental capacity could have deteriorated, why don't you come up with proof?
Quote:
I hold no illusions about Bush. He is by no means a "Great Communicator". The casual violence he inflicted on the english language on a regular basis has provided no end of amusement to his opponents and frustration to his supporters. But speaking ability is not the sole indicator of intellect. And if you want this insistence that Bush is mentally disabled to be interpreted as anything other than a childish backlash against someone who defeated your side in the political arena you should back your claims up. |

Are you suggesting that this is a good thing?
If so, why? Hah! You're funny Bush didn't lead... he lied! Define success So what? Proof? So? Then why is he so stoopid? Ahemm... have you not read any newspapers over the last eight years? How about eaves-dropped on an adult conversation? In which universe? See above Please, other than some spurious guff about piloting fighter jets, please provide evidence that suggests Teh Shrub possesses the level of intellect necessary to run a small business Hyperbole, much? Ummm... he's a loser, y'know? You should get out more often |

Sword_Of_Truth,
...wait, you mean we weren't just enjoying friendly hypothetical banter? You tried to trap me, you salty devil. My mistake... six7s responded in far more depth than I would have and I'm comfortable with the responses he provided. I'll simply add two comments. Firstly, being that you show an apparent kinship to W in the form of having difficulty comprehending the English language, your exaggerative defensiveness is understandable; and secondly, I (and many others) have made my point that it is laughable that someone who (as you yourself have noted) has demonstrated increasing issues performing the most basic communication functions using his native language is now targeting writing a book; all in good fun. Let me know if I need to simplify this further for you. |

If you really want me to demonstrate the flaws in your logic and obvious missteps in interpreting mine, I'll do so. It's no skin off my teeth.
ETA: I notice you haven't addressed six7s' points, why is that? |
