Will We Be Able To Have A Proper Forum Party?

As we all know, over the past couple of years the Official Forum Party (aka the Skepchick/Forum Party at TAM 6) has been shut down at unfortunately early hours by hotel security.

On behalf of an organization that was considering sponsorship of a Forum Party at TAM 7, I made a discrete inquiry at South Point about whether they would have any more isolated suites that might be appropriate for a party, and was told flat out that they don't allow parties of any kind in their suites, and thus that any party worthy of note would be shut down immediately upon the first call to security. Sigh.

Considering South Point's isolation from other casinos, it seems unlikely that we can find a suite-like venue at a hotel that would be convenient for those of us staying at South Point.

I am beginning to think that the best and only option might be to unofficially take over one of the bars at the hotel on the evening of July 11 and make that the Forum Party.

Sigh (repeated).

I think we've outgrown having a time, date and location so I'm with Scrut and Susan.

Yeah, but that was before the economy crashed and a bunch of us went broke. I love the idea of a forum party, but I'm no longer willing to put significant cash donations towards renting a venue.

Luckily, not all of us went broke. At least not yet. There are still a few Forum folks out there, who might be able to donate a some money towards a venue. At least while we still can. Anyone with me?

We know that. We always find you there. Then again, most of us were there anyway.

The whole situation does remind me of the introduction to "Pinky and the Brain".

"What are we going to do tonight, Brain?"

"Same thing we do every night Pinky; Try to take over the casino bar."

There will almost certainly be a Skepchick party, but the details are as yet undecided.

I agree with Scrut and Susan, just take over the bar. Bars are specifically designed to accommodate a ton of people, and a hotel suite isn't - as evidenced at TAM6.

See you all at the bar.

I think we should take over a specific bar at a specific time though. Of course, we should take over the nonspecific bars at nonspecific times as well.

As for renting a venue of some sorts.. sure I could throw in fifty bucks or so, but I'm not really convinced we can get enough money this way to get us a decent party-place.

Given the nature of TAMs for forum members, isn't everything outside of the lecture venue a party of some sort or another?

So long as we can all recognise each other by our name tags, I don't see what the difference is between a party and a bar mob.

Silly TAM virgin. After the lectures/presentations/panels, not only do our credentials come off, but our clothes do too. You're going to need to be able to recognize fellow attendees by something other than their name tags.

On the back should be something the average casino patron won't get at all.

"All your base belong to us" or whatever the exact wording is could be an example.

And let Travis drink. Technically, he didn't buy anything, but between me and several of you wonderful people, he managed to come to the room slightly buzzed each night. This year, he'll be 21 and can buy his own damned booze hit me up for money to buy his own drinks.

Thank you, Paulina and I set that up. We figured it needed to be somewhere that people walking by with nametags could be flagged down. And also we could be seen from people walking by. So a bar with no walls is a better place to be.

Like Travis, we managed to get Stirling in TAM6 (he was 17).

He does not drink but wants to hang out with us, so I hope it will be somewhere they don't card at the door, and then in a big group he can just merge in with other people. He is 18 now, other than his mustache he does not look even close to 21.

As Mrs. Nobbs has given me full rein to "go nuts and enjoy yourself", including whatever that entails, is there a cute skepchick out there who's willing to let me buy her a drink?

I'll come to the party regardless, but that would make it more fun.

It's true. Last TAM, I got a little bit naked at the bar - I even got a few dollar bills stuffed into my pants.

But they all came from Tobias, WHO IS NOT GAY!!!

Careful there, US. This is a woman who hunts wild boar in the jungle. Better watch out or you could end up on a spit.
