New XBOX tech "Project Natal" covertly funded by CIA/FBI

So on another board there are ongoing and raging debates over vaccines, 9/11, masons, chemtrails, energy healing, and a whole host of other stuff, with me and a few others lined up against a few hardcore CTers who literally haven't found a conspiracy they didn't find credible yet.

One of the guys who's often on "my side" is slightly woo - but not all that much really - still sometimes he slips.

You may have been following E3 and seen this:

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/projectnatal/default.htm

it can not only listen, but also watch, it has microphones specifically to know who is talking to it, it has sensors and cameras so it can scan your body and actually follow all your body movements...

Big Brother in your Xbox? My friend theorized the following:
What i wouldn't be surprised about, is if the CIA or FBI actually subsidize the cost of every Project Natal sold, so maybe $200 of each Natal sold is paid for by the government...
And from that another installment in the woo/anti-woo debates began, with the hard-core woo'ers of course finding this instantly credible, and myself and one other finding the assertion a little wanting in the credibility department.

Among the rationales for the big brother analysis:
  • i don't see warrantless xbox tapping in any way compareable to something impossible.. If they already have warrantless wiretapping, it is not a far stretch of the imagination at all..
  • Umm... How about... "we can see into everyone's house, scan their bodies, analyze their voice and watch them at any time we choose"... Yep. I don't think the CIA or FBI would be interested in anything like that.
  • You're talking about an agency that once thought sending an explosive cigar to Castro would be in the best interest of national security.
  • I'm not saying it's definitely happening.. But i know there is some sort of connection between microsoft's xbox tech and the military. The controllers for their drone planes look almost identical to the xbox controller!
  • Maybe all they did was sell the technology to Microsoft very covertly for a good price.. I don't know.. All i'm saying is that i wouldn't be surprised if the CIA or FBI had a hand in it.. Maybe even the Communists' agencies. The communists were the first to hack Skype after all (or at least, the first to admit to hacking skype).
What I find most frustrating about these debates is the "connect the dots" approach: the utility of this info is marginal, but the agencies in question have done tons of stuff of marginal utility before like creating exploding cigars and attaching surveillance equipment to a cat; the military is using a similar controller to an xbox to pilot drones; etc etc.

While the originator of these thoughts has admitted that its all speculation, it has a high degree of plausibility for him - though on my end I'm wracking my brain trying to figure out just what utility ANY of the information being sent with this technology would be to ANY agency.

It's a conspriacy to show all the geeks of the world how really uncooridanted and clumsy they are. We were talking about NATAL at the Society for Creative Anarchronism fighter practice I was at last night, and we agreed that a lot of people are going to find out that handling a sword with a game controllers in a RPG and handling one depending on real muscle control and coordination are two different things.

Why would the CIA sponsor a Big Brother Technology that could be completely defeated by unplugging it?

Reminds me of an occasion when I sat through a long rant by an "activist" acquaintance which boiled down to "CIA this, CIA that, CIA de odder ting".
When I finally had the chance to get a word in edgewise I said:

Naturally it had no effect on my interlocutor but it did get the most laffs of anything said that evening.

Obviously the CIA is going to use the Natal to monitor the creepy gamer types who play online. They are really the only people it will effect since I don't think most people even bother with having their Xbox connected unless they are specifically doing something online.

And good for the CIA. Those people need watchin'.

WEll the type that play online games on a constant basis ( me being one of) is the same type that the CT'ers go for, so that is what the evil machine of the week is going after.

Sigh.

They sent a download of NATAL do my XBOX.
The video looked REALLY COOL!
The weird thing was that at the end of the video I noticed that I was kneeling before a self made alter with a picture of Obama and I was eating a lizard.
Do you think that this is odd?

In my house, the lizard eats you.

Seriously, he's like 4 feet long, lives in the bathroom, and sometimes mistakes fingers and toes for shrimp.

I'll stay away from that demo.

Oi, I've sussed it!

This is a product of the NWO - but it's intended to neutralize the CIA, not help them!

Imagine how many agents they would need to monitor all those slacker gamers - then imagine exactly how unpopular that duty would be. We'd have thousands of experienced agents quitting as soon as physically possible. Once word got out that 90%+ of their agents spent all day looking at slobs on couches playing CoD4, their recruitment rate would drop through the floor!

So, clearly, the NWO considers the CIA to be a threat!

If we can link NATAL to DARPA somehow I'm sure INRM will get right to the bottom of all this.

Overheating? You actually believe that overheating causes the red ring of death? Early 360s were actually impervious to the CIAs attempt to gain complete access to, so they created a virus that causes the Xbox to die so that you have to replace it with a newer device that they have already gained access to.

Spying on people sitting in front of their TV? You could get pretty much the same footage by buying "Married... with Children" dvds.

Hope they enjoy the show.

Well, if it could be tapped you could probably gather a lot of information on individuals...

If it's true, but who knows. After all the CIA did try and assassinate Castro with an explosive cigar...

Not too much info about me on XBL that isn't already out there. All you would really learn is how much I curse while trying to hijack the Russian tanker in Splinter Cell: Double Agent.

And that I really such at videogames.

From a tech standpoint, it would probably be easier than wiretapping the phones. It is all controlled from a central location.

The big question is: Why?

Microsoft claims 17 million XBL subscribers. OK, that is impressive. But, how many of those are the old XBox and how many are 360 users? Now, how many are actually going to get the Natal?

hmmmm why wouldnt they just send out a simple software update that could collect data on you secretly?
I would imagine that this would be possible although I dont believe it would ever be done.
Plus NATAL is bound to be pricey so not everyone will get it.

They don't even need that. as soon as I sing on to Xbox Live, they know who I am, where I am, and what game I'm playing. Heck, XBL has my credit card info, so they could even find out what I've bought lately. They also know which of my friends are online. What more would this give them? A picture of me playing a game that they already know I'm playing?

The Natal (hope they change that) is going to have motion capture and visual recognition features. This means that to play games on it, you are going to be flailing around like an epileptic monkey.

So, yeah, the CIA is probably going to tap into it. But only because it will be really, really funny.

Distressingly enough, there are conspiracy theorists who believe these technologies work even when turned off or unplugged.

Their "theories" are never falsifiable. That's part of what makes them so insidious.

"Turned off", I could understand (look into "always on" technology, that makes things like remote controls useful), but, "unplugged" is unplugged....

I suppose it is hypothetically possible to have a small battery supply onboard so it could be activated in the event of a person pulling the plug.

But there is no evidence to suggest this...

But pulling the plug applies to more than just the power. I can also unplug it's connection to the Internet, which would stifle their efforts just as well.

Not to mention there's a whole slew of people who buy these things and take them apart. Kind of hard to hide that technology.

There's no way the "sheeple" could be that inquisitive. I shall have to assume you're lying, rather than re-evaluate the concept of "sheeple".
