A humorous look at 2012

I came across a wonderful take on the top six 2012 end of the world theories. I think my favorite line comes from the end of the article when answering the question, "How did they settle on 2012?"

Quote:
The History Channel, that's how. In late 2007, the History Channel ran a special about Nostradamus' lost book, stretching interpretations so thin you could make a doomsday crepe out of it
Take a look its good for a laugh. Some of the advertising is NSW and there are cuss words so put the kids to bed first.

Go to that site and it should be the first story in the upper left hand corner titled

"The six best 2012 apocalypse theories (are all bull#$%@)"

Not sure why the direct link won't work and don't feel like messing with it.

TinyURL to the rescue, with NWS --> WS URL conversions.

http://tinyurl.com/nyc4tt

Why bother with the TinyURL if I could have simply made other text into a link without including the swearing that is part of the original URL?

Poop, that's a really good question, I dunno.

Thank you jasonpatterson.

Did anyone else find that funny or am I a little immature?

I don't know you well enough to speak on the latter, but if finding that amusing is immature then I am as well.

I must admit, I found the "7 WTF Military Weapons You Won't Believe They Actually Built" rather entertaining. Perhaps because of who I am, my role(s), and rank, but to be an MD you need an odd sense of humor. Trust me, it keeps you sane.

Well, as long as you asked, I found it to be quite rude and rather childish, and no, I'm not a 2012 doomsday believer.

I thought 2012 was based on the mayan calendar or somesuch...

It's also when my drivers licence expires, so that's convenient...

I thought it was funny... thanks for posting the link.

Personally I think these guys are pretty hilarious - the 2012 doomsayers, that is. We have a bunch of them right here in my neighborhood. One is a doctor (I checked, he really is a doctor, a medical doctor) and he wrote a book about it. About the world ending, I mean... it's a very boring book and he starts out explaining that "the Earth gets hotter when it's closest to the sun, that's why we have summer". I guess he forgot about the southern hemisphere, and of course that's all totally wrong anyway. He's got a little following here. They are building on some property he has, and the plan is they are going to live underground there for 6 years. (I never get how these "the World Is Going To End!!1!" folks come to the conclusion that they can *survive* it.) They are no end of amusement. They just had to throw out a whole bunch of 50-gallon barrels filled with peanuts... the peanuts got moldy. Also, for some reason, they decided that there would not be any wood after the world had ended, so they are actually burying logs so they'll have wood.

It's quite the deal for the Dr - all these people are building quonset huts and so on FOR FREE for him, all for the chance of being one of the "60 families" that he is going to "save". Now personally, I can not imagine spending 6 years underground in a hole with the same group of people, but I guess some people want to do it.

It certainly is childish, the whole site is! I think its good to see these "maxim magazine-esque" sites not buying the whole 2012 thing and instead having some fun with it.

As far as the Doctor in NM I would get as far away from them as I could.

Thanks, Biscuit! I really enjoyed that article! I might even post it at a woo forum I post at, if I feel a bit cheeky.

And I have feeling that Roland Emmerich's new "2012" movie is going to be an unintentional laugh riot.
