Dawkins, Dennett, Scott in Burbank Oct 2

I didn't see any of you at the convention in Long Beach, but it looks like the "Big Guns" are coming to Burbank this fall, so maybe I'll see you there. Bill Maher, Richard Dawkins, Eugenie Scott, Daniel Dennett, and Mr. Deity, among many others.

Linky.

I guess this is why Dawkins had to drop out of TAM London.

Crap. I live about 10 minutes from Burbank and this is totally up my alley. But I'm scheduled to give birth the week before,* so it's going to have to be a pass for me.

* Before Scrut can make this joke -- yes, I realize this means I'm going to have something else up my alley.

Can't you cork it until the week after?

Price jumps after September 1, so if you know you're going, book now.

There was a note sent out to my old student group about two tickets being available for students who were willing to volunteer.

I debated pointing out that Bill Maher is probably not someone skeptics want to be celebrating.

Yeah, but he's only one of the people who'll be there (though they ARE giving him the Richard Dawkins Award this year, I guess mostly for the movie). As "talent" who doesn't have a book to sign, I doubt he'll be very available to those who might like to educate him.

Still, this event is for atheists rather than skeptics per se, and the scientists who are speaking might be worth it if you're local.

Whoa! With so many big and powerful atheists all in one place, how is God supposed to get any work done, over there?!

Sold out.

Too bad it's happening the weekend AFTER the fiery judgment falls. OTOH, that should make the atheist's bus tour of the smoldering rubble formerly known as LA quite the photo op.

I'll be at the AAI Convention too. Look for me if you're there. I'll be wearing a black T shirt with my JREF Forum Avatar on the back. (Those shirts do double duty!)

For those that can't get to see him, Dawkins appeared on BBC radio recently, talking about his latest book. The podcast is available for the next few days here.

The controversy over award that Bill Maher is to receive erupted today.

Orac: Ask Bill Maher and Richard Dawkins some questions at the AAI Conference this weekend!

PZ: The Maher Conundrum

I'll be present to watch the fireworks.

Alas, I predict very little in the way of fireworks. Maher will come in, take his award, and leave immediately.
