Thumbs down Linksys wireless adapter: compatible w/Vista 64 bit or not?

Anyone know? Bouncing around their POS web site didn't help, what a mess...emailed their tech spt but haven't heard back. I have the WUSB54GC (v3) FWIW. It says it's compatible on the box, but some replies I have seen on msg boards (including theirs) make it sound like not and it will not install the adapter (I get "Error 211"). Don't have firewalls, AV etc running.

Anyone have a firm read on this? I've already returned a Netgear adapter which worked for awhile and gradually got worse......is Belkin any better or do they all blow?

We have a Linksys hub that is working fine with a) wireless to XP, b) cable to XP or Vista. But we can't get a working wireless connection to Vista. I thought that was due to particular system setups, however... if Linksys wireless is generally Vista-shy, that would be a major bummer.

My Linksys croaked utterly when we tried to connect our new Vista laptop; 2 hours on the phone with the tech service produced nothing. Apparently, the thing lost it's ability to keep it's IP.
We went out and bought a cheap Netgear item and were up and running in minutes.

Personally I'd steer clear of Belkin products. Having said that, I've never had a problem with Linksys so YMMV.

This guy seems to have had a similar experience, but got his working in the end, at the expense of a few grey hairs by the sound of it. He provides a link to the Canadian website where he scored a working driver.

Edit: And there's some more info here. If you google linksys error 211 then you will find a lot of relevant links that might help you resolve this.

I bounced all around their POS cobweb of a web site as well as google and turned up zero in the way of definitive answers or legit help.

In fairness, Netgear is no better. 3 days after I returned their POS adapter to Best Buy, I got an email saying "no one has responded to your question yet, maybe you should register with us and try again"

What the hell, think I'll give belkin a whirl, nothing to lose

Okay, so did you go to the top link and download the specific driver for your OS?

Umm, I've been using linksys wireless for a network that is XP, vista, and vista 64. Never had any problems, and it was just one step short of plug and play...
