Laptop fan running constantly

Can this problem be solved by using less ram? Closing as many windows as possible?

If I buy more ram..will it help or worsen the problem?

Are you sure there's not dust and other crap clogging up the laptop and causing it to over-heat? This was the problem with my desktop recently.

Better catch it.

Or replace power supply. Or turn off comp when not using.

Are you actually using it on your lap? Some have vents on the bottom that are blocked by lap fat and lap clothes. And delete all your pics of me, cause I'm hot.

What brand and model? I have a Toshiba P35 and it's fan kicks into high after about 10 minutes. It turns out that that models heat sinks clog easily and are almost impossible to get to with out taking the whole thing apart. I took it in to get them cleaned.

I have experienced this problem. It was caused by dust getting into the fan/heatsink etc. Eventually causing the assembly to be replaced under warantee.

With the machine off, blow forcefully in the reverse direction of the air flow, to dislodge the dust. A can of compressed air may help.
