Rifqa Bary - conversion to Christianity and honor killing

Have any of you heard of this young lady or have an opinion on her situation? She's become quite the cause celebre on Christian media outlets like talk radio, The 700 Club and Fox News.

Well; if she is worried enough to flee home, child services should investigate.
Almost certainly, even if the 'honor killing' thing were to be untrue, there is a problem in the family environment.

Then, once that is confirmed, there already are rules about how to remove an endangered child from a unsuitable familial environment.

The deluded girl just traded one brand of nonsense for another and lost her family in the process.

Does it strike anyone else as odd that these folk did not at least let the authorities know the lassie was there and ok?

Oh, and "The documents describe the Noor Center as "one of the primary sources of Islamic extremism in central Ohio."

Is it a big frog in a raindrop or is there a lot of muslim "extremism" in Ohio?

According to a muslim friend of mine from Cincinnati the answer is no.

Not just odd - I believe the fundies who "rescued" her are technically guilty of kidnapping. If they believed she was in mortal danger, what was the problem with taking her to social services or a womens' shelter?

There's strong parallels with the 1957 case of 15-year-old Maura Lyons - different religions, different country, but same bigotry. In that case, a court eventually decided that she had been kidnapped, and ordered her return to her family; thereafter she appears to have disappeared from the news.

The girl is seventeen. I don't know why they don't emancipate her and let her choose where she wants to live and what God she wants to believe in. If she doesn't want her parents to know where she is, then that will be her choice and her choice alone.

If all that Rifqa's new friends wanted for her was to be safe from her parents until she was legally adult, they could have hidden her easily; with the kind of networks the churches have in the US, a person could stay underground for years.
But, instead, they chose to parade her in public like some kind of trophy - prize booty won from the enemy in glorious battle. Which illustrates their real motive.
My personal hope for her is that she will eventually see that she has been manipulated and used.
And that she'll join the Scientologists.

Not as far as I know...there are a lot of Muslims in Columbus, though.

The OT encourages the killing of apostates and disobedient children, too. Jews and Christians elect to somehow interpret the Bible as not requiring this. Muslims are just as capable of somehow interpreting the Koran as not requiring this either. It is highly likely that her parents are sincere in their claim that they have no plans on killing her and her Christian 'friends' have convinced her otherwise.

Not in repsonse to you, Fiona, just sayin'.

The most glaring hypocracy I see in this case is that the same people who are cheering a minor meeting a strange couple on Facebook, joining their religion and running away from "escaping" their family would be froth-spewing ape**** if this were any other situation.
