I don't quite understand why this would be offensive? Does anyone know?

I think it is a dodge. It would have been "offensive" if he had denied it and Bashir's continued with the questioning. But note, he never addressed the question head-on...he just says its "offensive" and threatens to walk out.

Well, claiming offense is the only logical way to defend a secret.

If you are a SOOPER SEKRET organization with SOOPER important SEKRETS, you can't actually confirm or deny any claim to what those SEKRETS are. If you were to deny, then you effectively create a means for people to eventually discover your SOOPER SEKRETS.

Claiming offense sets a tone that makes the person feel bad for even asking. It's a clever (albeit transparent) way of avoiding admitting they beleive in Batpoop crazy stuff.

A more interesting line of questions would be a less direct one:
1.) Is scientology beliefs compatible with christianity? Islam?....
2.) Is it true that scientologists beleive that we can all become better than what we are and are self impowering?
3.) Is this ability to improve us suggest that is something "keeping" us from being the best we coudl be?
4.) What is that thing and if it is a thing who caused it?

or, another way, ask things that are even more rediculous and see if they will deny it.

1.Some people suggest scientologists beleive milk enemas are required for becoming clear, is this true?
2. Do you believe that there is no god and that the universe is actually a giant panda nipple?

As a Panda Nipplonian, I find that comment offensive and glib.

Martin Bashir was supposed to be working on a Biog of Cruise a while back - maybe this is part of it or a result of his "research" ?

Paul Haggis, one of the top Film Writters in Hollywood, had quit the CO$ and has written a blistering letter to it's head explaining why. Biggest name defector so far. Watch him get the treatment from the CO$ now.

can't blame him. Those beliefs of the church are for the top members. By the time he found out that the founders believed them, they already had so much dirt on him and had him locked in so much that he couldn't get out. Now he is stuck there, don't make him squirm. We should jump in and save him. Witness protection, change his name, get what we know about Scientology out of him, and set him free.

Considering that the whole point of getting clear is to expell one's thetans, their existence and the whole Xenu thing would seem to be central to the religious dogma of Scientology. Interviewers should make a point of bringing this wacky scenario up every time they talk to any Scientologists. They should also have Hubbard's work right in their hands when they do so. Thus they can quote him. However, what would be best would be to find a way to get one of these devious sons-of-*****es on a witness stand in a court of law, where they can't walk out and can't decline to answer the question without being found in contempt of court. Ideally, this would be done in a civil case, where the witness couldn't plead the fifth.

Interesting commentary here:

Quote:
Yet there is the rub. In France, Scientology is deemed a sect as opposed to a religion, which is why they are required to produce evidence for their claims, where recognised religious leaders are not. For those of us who believe that all religions are full of tall tales, this might seem slightly unfair. Admittedly, it costs more financially to be lied to by Scientology than it does to be taken on an equally evidence-free journey by other faiths, and we should not for a moment gloss over the cruel and repulsive way in which the church has hounded their critics.
But when I think of Mel Gibson building his $42m church compound in Malibu, blithely telling interviewers at the time of the Passion of the Christ's release that his then wife would unfortunately be going to hell, because she was Church of England … well, I can't find it in myself to find him any less barking than Tom Cruise.
Clearly, Scientologists should be forced to justify their doctrinal lunacies – the only sadness is that other religions are apparently exempt from having to do the same. Imagine for a moment a Bashir-type interviewing some senior cardinal. "So," he might inquire, "you're saying that by some magic the communion wafer actually becomes the flesh of a man who died 2,000 years ago, a man who – and I don't want to put words into your mouth here – we might categorise as an imaginary friend who can hear the things you're thinking in your head? And when you've done that, do you mind going over the birth control stuff?"
What a shame that we see rather fewer of these exchanges, however amusing and useful a sideshow Scientology may be.

OT III and the wall of fire. If you haven't had the correct auditing done scientology doctrine holds that the xenu stuff can (and probably will) kill you.

Yes, he died in 1986. However, priests of Xenu have secretly kept his brain alive in a fish tank, from which it projects vibrations that make people do strange things. While under its influence, Nicole Kidman married a guy who was so short she dwarfed him when she put on heels.

Besides which every $cientology "church" has a room set up waiting for Ron when he drops by. Swept daily by one of the lower level brain dead.

Sooo...my brain transplant hypothesis is plausible!

Just imagine, L. Ron is dying. A lifetime of popping "pinks and grays" like M&Ms is finally catching up with him. He needs a handsome, well-known new body to be the vessel for his enlightened OT-whatever brain...

We need to test this... Joobz book us airfare to LA! Tim, you bring the chloroform! I'll bring the Milwaukee Sawzall!
