How do you get downloaded apps onto an iPod touch?

Has anyone any idea how to get downloaded apps onto an ipod touch. The iPod is connected to the XP computer by USB. Music seems to synch automatically. The app is showing on the computer but I can't get it onto the iPod. Can't RTFM because I havn't got TFM.
Thanks.

You can get TFM from here.

Sorry I can't be of help with your problem, but I'm a Mac user, and have never even seen iTunes on the PC.

TFM says that the App should synch automatically. Not doing it though.

Once you buy the app you go to your ipod menu (thing that has all the taps when you click your ipod on the side) then click applications and it should come up with a menu with a list of your apps and a black box next to it find your application and drag to the black box and in the right hand left corner it should say apply. (if not go to the black box and drag your app and put it back in it spot in the black box apply should now come up then click apply and wait untell it is on you ipod. (if you look at your i pod it should say slide to unlock when its done loading)

My friend had the same problem with his iTouch. Turns out he needed to upgrade to the 2.x firmware (not free).

Yup. You must have the upgrade to use apps.

ETA: Settings --> General --> About on your iPod. Mine says version 3.1.2

You are in luck. I have one application game on my iPod. Do this.
1. Click on Eth's iPod (this in the picture left hand side). I assume this is the ipod where you want the application.
2. You will notice a series of tabs up the top of the iTunes screen. The right most one should be games. Click on it.
3. Should be a tick box. Ensure that is ticked.
4. Sync your ipod.
5. Play!

Edit. The game will be on the iPod under Extras / Games. I have a 30GB iPod. No idea if the instructions will be valid on other iPods.

It's the same crappy program.....

(Sorry but I HATE iTunes, on both platforms.)

Not reading the flipping manual or not reading the relevant part. Should have got this from Ian Osborne's post. Post 2.
Being to dumb to be able to follow xean1000's instructions. Post 4.
Thinking that just because the instructions said that it would synch automatically that it would synch automatically.
Being the father of tech happy kids. Not my iPod.
Mainly not doing this-
1. Click on Eth's iPod (this in the picture left hand side). I assume this is the ipod where you want the application.
