An astute move or a clumsy handling of the situation that will alienate US muslims from the mainstream?

Was Iran using the foundation and the skyscraper merely to get money, or is this a case of soft/asymmetric balancing by a weaker power? Or is the US case frivolous?

The 97-page civil forfeiture lawsuit filed by federal prosecutors in Manhattan alleges that the Alavi Foundation, which files federal taxes as a charitable foundation, is illegally funneling money to the government of Iran.

“It makes me furious,” Abdi said. “We're under attack.”

“The Alavi Foundation has effectively been a front for the government of Iran,” U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said in a statement. “For two decades, the Alavi Foundation’s affairs have been directed by various Iranian officials, including Iranian ambassadors at the United Nations, in violation of a series of U.S. laws.”

When I was in Sarajevo, I saw this Iranian culture centre that had been set up on the main drag, which I thought was pretty interesting.
