Black Holes: The Liberal/Atheist Conspiracy!

Not sure whether this belonged in SMMT, R&P, Politics, or humor:

Recently, Andrew Schlafly, son on anti-feminist harpy Phyllis, creators of Conseravapedia, purger of "liberal bias" from scripture, an harasser of biologists, spake the following:

Quote:
There's a broader point here. Why the big push for black holes by liberals, and big protests against any objection to them? If it turned out empirically that promoting black holes tends to cause people to read the Bible less, would you still push this so much?
I'm speechless! The public's acceptance of Schlafly's particular brand of superstition and politics is more important than actual, testable reality? It doesn't matter if evolution or cosmology is true, all that matters is that people believe in Jeez-us and vote Republican!

Apparently, it not just black holes that Andy has a religious/poltical problem with, but with relativity in general!

Quote:
Relativity predicts absurd physical discontinuities and it contradicts logic, the evidence, and the Bible. The biggest promoters of relativity today are more liberal than the Democratic Party, and that's saying a lot. Promoting relativity causes a great deal of harm in how people view the world, and has cost taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars on fruitless projects like LIGO.

You've heard none of this before because liberals control universities and don't allow open discussion and debate about their pet theories. Perhaps you think man-made global warming is not a liberal theory either?--Andy Schlafly 19:20, 23 November 2009 (EST)
Apparently General/Special Relativity is code for MORAL RELATIVISM!!!!

I don't recall which fundie spokesman it was, but, whoever it was, he objected to the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle because God's creation can't be uncertain. Therefore, Schlafley's ignoramus assault on black holes isn't surprising. What is alarming is that people with such a flawed understanding of science are in a position, from time to time to influence everything from textbook selection by local school boards to determining the research funding of NASA.

Quite often, after reading/hearing a stunningly stupid post/statement, (usually in the CT forums) I say...

"The sheer density of the stupid in that post/statement has created a black hole somewhere in the universe."

Congrats Mr. Schlafly! You have created a quantum singularity!

This is highly amusing as well.

I can't believe conservapedia even exists.

I don't get this non-falsifiable argument. If we see light from a star, then it is not a black hole. Any claim that it is a black hole is then falsified. Black hole theory says that a star becomes a black hole whenever its mass goes inside its Schwarzschild radius, it becomes a black hole. So if we ever find a star that emits light and has its mass inside its Schwarzschild radius, then the theory is falsified. RSchlafly 10:32, 28 July 2009 (EDT)

Here is the full quote...

Quote:
Mark cited Clifford Will's government-funded 2004 article on proof for General Relativity, but that paper is very "thin" and in a mere 15-minute review several weaknesses are apparent. But thanks for the citation, Mark.
This is a site where logic prevails. If you want to say that black holes are consistent with General Relativity (though rejected by Einstein), and General Relativity might be falsifiable (though tests will sufficient accuracy are difficult and expensive), that's fine. But black holes themselves, like life in outer space, are not falsifiable. It's basic logic, and that doesn't change whether all accept the logic or not.
There's a broader point here. Why the big push for black holes by liberals, and big protests against any objection to them? If it turned out empirically that promoting black holes tends to cause people to read the Bible less, would you still push this so much? Certainly there is no practical justification to pushing black holes; no one will ever be helped by them in any way.--Andy Schlafly 12:03, 13 November 2009 (EST)
Make of it what you will, but I can't see it in any "context" other than Schlafly being a Fascist, Bible-humping, anti-intellectual, slime ball.

You do realize that the 1979 Disney movie The Black Hole wasn't a documentary?

At the end, after the damaged starship U.S.S. Cygnus is pulled into the titular singularity, the evvvvvvvvvil mad scientist, Dr. Hans Reinhardt (played by Maximilian Schell) ends up in Hell and is merged with his killer robot as part of his eternal punishment.

...

Hey! I didn't write the damn thing!

The following is from http://thedarwinreport.wordpress.com...y_creationist/

Stated by creationist and biblical inarrantist Allen Epling, former public school techer, speaking of the Heisenberg Uncertainty principle:

Many scientists firmly advocate a “certainty” that there is no God, in spite of believing ‘religiously’ in the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principal. In the forefront of today’s science is a body of evidence, catagorized[sic] as Quantum Mechanics, that makes clear that nothing in the entire universe is certain but is determined by a “probability factor”. Any scientist that is certain about anything is admitting hypocracy[sic] to his own field of study.

Response posted on that site:

All Heisenberg’s Uncertainty Principle states is that “the more precisely the POSITION [of a particle] is determined, the less precisely the MOMENTUM is known”. It has nothing to do with the general reliability of scientific evidence.

While the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle has to do with quantum mechanics, rather than relativity, the same misinterpretaion of a scientific principle shown by Andrew Schlafly in regard to relativity is evident here.
