The Floating Cigarette

Hey, normally I only care about card manipulation stuff, but I saw someone at a local bar do the Floating Cigarette Trick and it looked unbelievable. So I have some questions: a) is it Fearson's? b) will it work in brightly lit situations? c) is it as awesome as I think it is? and d) where should I buy it?

Just to be clear, I don't want a free explanation of how it works. I would like to purchase it, because it was the raddest thing I'd ever seen.

Right now? Neilsen's Ethics Without God, a rather dry but well-argued little book. Or you may be referring to "finally finally finally" in my second response to myself, which is a direct lift from Eggers's A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius.

Why do you ask, Zep? Do you know the mysteries of the Floating Cigarette?

I don't do any IT work, sorry eh. But I can direct you to a place where some know all about it, and argue over the better version.

It probably was Feason's. When done properly, which is to say with a lot of practise, it looks great. Did the guy make it float all the way down to the floor and then up into his mouth?

There are lighting issues which you have to pay attention to, but in the right light it can be done at very close quarters.

I have no idea what the Floating Cigarette trick is or how it is done, although it sounds good. I'm no magician, amateur or professional (although I have been known to make money and food disappear, it isn't magic).

I was just responding to your lengthy holler to attract attention! Carry on!

Yeah, did it float down toward the floor and then back up to his mouth? If so, it sounds like Fearson's.

There's another effect (with a different method) by John Kennedy in which the cigarette floats out of the case, followed by a match that floats out and lights the cigarette.

If you go to themagiccafe.com, be careful what you say, or you'll have some pompous humourless armchair magician prick telling you how you're "disrespecting the art".

Yeah, it went about 6" off the ground at one point. Re: disrespecting the art: I haven't posted there yet, but if they have a problem with "disrespecting the art," they should probably call up Fearson and tell him to not sell it.

Pthbbt.

B'sides, I'm sure it's difficult to do, but dammit, it was cool. I must know.

Just want to clarify----what I said about the Magic Cafe has nothing to do with the trick we're talking about.

It's just that there are several people on that board who are a bit too quick to jump on other people...

John Kennedy's floating cigarette is interesting, but can only be done on stage and the gimmick he sells isn't as good as the one he actually uses himself, (which is longer).
