Cartoonist attacker on attempted manslaughter charges

Quote:
A man has been charged with attempted manslaughter after allegedly storming the home of a Danish cartoonist whose Prophet Muhammad drawing caused uproar. The 28-year-old Somali, who was shot by police outside Kurt Westergaard's home on Friday night, was carried in to court on a stretcher.
He denied charges of trying to kill Mr Westergaard and a police officer at the scene, in the city of Aarhus.
He is also alleged to have links with Somalia's al-Shabab Islamist militants.

Police said an intruder had got into Mr Westergaard's home in eastern Denmark on Friday night armed with a knife and an axe, and had shouted in broken English that he wanted to kill him

Too bad the policeman's shot didn't kill him.

You've gotta love the way that Muslim extremists react to claims that they are violent or dangerous. By being violent and dangerous. It's so ridiculous it's almost comical.

Not sure why but I find mildly bemusing that the would-be-assassin shouted his intent in neither his or his victim's first language.
Maybe someone was feeding him lines..?

When Yale planned to publish the cartoons in an academic book but pulled them, scholar Reza Aslan argued that this was silly and stupid since the controversy had long since died out and wasn't about to be reignited by an academic book published for students and faculty.

This made me think how funny it is that these things seem to have a time limit on them. So conservative Muslims think that the cartoons were offensive enough to merit murder and destruction on 30 September 2005- but not 2009? They can't work up the energy to be angry now? It caused the deaths of dozens of people then but now they can be freely published and it only gets a shrug? Gathers zero publicity and attention in the first place? They are the same exact cartoons. Surely if something is offensive once it remains offensive and still merits murder and destruction.

Thank you, Somali would be killer, for proving me wrong by attempting to kill the cartoonist more than 4 years later. Among Muslim terrorists, you are at least logical and consistent. In a funny way.

Is the definition of manslaughter different in Denmark?
How is it possible to try to kill someone without malice aforethought?
If you try to kill someone, malice seems to be an essential element of the plan.

Kurt continuously recieve death threats of the like, but he has not yet barricaded himself in an armored fun-house with traps and uzi's ready to go.
These threats are not from the couch-potatoe losers who send hate-mail to celebrities, this is the kind that poses an increasingly notable risk to people who has or is engaging in mockery, humour or criticism of Islam.

Do it the american way Kurt, get yourself an arsenal, or adopt the Saltsjöbad spirit and sit and wait for more peaceful and tolerant times.

Not really. The goatse and the like are offensive. Plently of web veterans around who are not really bothered by them any more.

Well, he did retreat to the armored panic room set up for that purpose. Good on him for making the snap decision to do so, must have been tough: His five-year-old granddughter was inside the house but outside the safe room at the time he locked himself in.

Regarding the word used - manslaughter - I believe that's an error in translation. The Danish legal term for homicide sounds a bit like that. The perp is indeed being charged with attempted murder on two counts, Westergaard and a policeman that he shot at. ETA: Sorry, that he threw an axe at.
