Free to be you and woo-woo...

So they have robot scientists now:

http://www.boston.com/news/world/art...bot_scientist/

Quote:

Researchers said yesterday that they have created the world's first robotic scientist, a system that can form theories, devise experiments, and then carry out the experiments almost entirely without human help.

Even though I know better in my head of course I have a picture of Bender in a lab coat.

But what I'm thinking is if this all works out, that leaves humanity to be as ignorant, superstitious, and religiously fanatical as we want since we now have robots to do the hard work of learning, experimenting and making our lives better.

Woo Hoo! I'm off to the airport to join the Moonies!

BAh humbug. Robot scientist. Maybe for formulating hypothesis from some data, but not to do much else. Devise experiments?

Hmm,

neat movie:

Robot decides to formulate hypothesis on how many humans it can lobotomize in a day (let's say 10). Robot devises experiment. Robot attempts to conduct experiment. Humans destroy Robot.
