If Libyans are anything like the Iranians I know, the reaction in Libya to the latest let's-kill-all-the-infidels rant by dear leader: "Oh God, he's embarrassing us again."

PS: Can we hire the Mossad team from Dubai ?

Oh, this is a real story? I came across this a few days ago on the Daily Mash and thought they'd just made it up.

Maybe NSFW

Truth is stranger than parody.

There are relatively peaceful relations between Christians and Muslims in Libya. However, there are restrictions for Christian religious activity. It is prohibited to proselytize Muslims, even though a non-Muslim man must convert to Islam if he wants to marry a Muslim woman. Also, religious literature is restricted.

alot of restrictions there, i guess thats OK but alowing moskues without a minaret is not OK.

well i voted against the ban, and i dislike the law.

But there is still religous freedom. you can build a moskue, but not a minaret, you can convert to Islam if you want. you can marry a Muslim person.

I still dont understand... Minarets are one of the primary signs for the Muslim people, like church tower for Christians. I think that is an attack on personal freedoms.

In most modern mosques, the adhan is called from the musallah, or prayer hall, via microphone to a speaker system on the minaret. Minarets also function as air conditioning mechanisms: as the sun heats the dome, air is drawn in through open windows then up and out of the minaret, thereby providing natural ventilation.

They're also a source of noise pollution. I don't scream in a high-pitched voice at Moslems five times a day; I'd rather they treated me similarly. However, that's not an argument against building them, just against using them as a stone-age-technology replacement for texting.

It is part of their culture and tradition... If you disrespect them, they`ll disrespect you. I have Muslim friends, and their culture never cease to amaze me...

On Gaddafi... He rants over this solely for one reason... the same reason why a dog licks his b*lls. Because he can.

And it's part of my culture and tradition that people don't do things like that. Somehow that matters less because I haven't pretended an omnipotent being told me to do it.

If there is going to be fighting on the streets, I hope it can be deferred for another week or so. The Geneva Car Show is on at the moment and the traffic is a nightmare as it is, so we certainly don't want to add tanks and barricades and burning wrecks to the mix.

I agree; I really can't see any justification for the ban on building them. Still, that's direct democracy for you; the will of the people isn't required to make sense.
