A not unexpected silence

Where are all the pundits who were crowing about this past winter's snow invalidating AGW, now that we're experiencing record-breaking heat in half of CONUS? That sword cuts both ways, guys.

Hey, it was your argument.

Every winter there's global cooling, every summer there's global warming.

The graph looks like this: ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Crazy.

They didn't even win with winter;

<SNIP>

NOAA's National Climatic Data Center reports that worldwide the average temperature for winter was 54.9 degrees Fahrenheit (12.7 Celsius).

That's 1.08 degrees F (0.60 C) above average for the three-month period.

yeah good point Buckaroo. I think most of the warmmongers on this site realize that one season does not a climate change make...whereas the denialists will seize on any shred of purported evidence and trumpet it with the (perhaps justified) hope that 'a misrepresentation repeated loudly enough becomes the truth'

hence the deafening silence from the AGW camp in the face of a single supporting datum.

Maybe the ones here realise that, but it's extremely common for weather events to be blamed on global warming in the popular media, the internet in general, and everyday conversation.

Not all of them. Macdoc at least has been blaming every warm afternoon on global warming for a fair old while now.

ETA: Actually now that I spend a little time think about this I think I’m going to take some offense at the OP. Ever since I started posting on this subject, pretty much every warm day, every tiny drop in rainfall, every early blooming bluebell, has been shoved in my face as incontrovertible evidence of AGW.

Now you express derision when a cold wet winter initiates a few doubting comments?

Yep, I know -- my point was about the hipocrisy of Inhofe et al.

Oh no, I expressed plenty of derision towards the denialist crowd months ago during a warming snap in mid-January in the upper Midwest. I even started a parody thread on it called Global cooling... debunked?

So you’re behind Poptech. Proud?

A few doubting comments?

That's an odd way to characterize a staple of radio, television, internet discussion and even newspaper comics.

So you posted the comics. Right.

Ok so other than the comics, perhaps you could find me say 3 serious articles claiming that the recent winter invalidates global warming? I had a quick look around and other than one or two incoherent right wing crazies, I actually couldn’t find anything. Even Anthony Watts posted all the record cold stories under the by-line ‘weather is not climate’.

Actually, just find me one.

Oh, they have to be "serious articles" now? For me it's enough that the claim was repeated by several Fox news and opinion shows, by Op Ed pieces in large mainstream newspapers, by Republican members of Congress speaking with the press.

Tell me about this record-breaking heat.... [wistful sigh]

It's 7th April and I have snow lying in my garden.

Except - it's a nice day today. We're all doomed! Doomed, I tell you!!!

Defend the accusation or withdraw it

I preface any comments on extreme events with "no single event...."

That you don't understand that AGW changes consist of events that are more extreme more frequently is not my problem but yours.

That the OP does not understand that heavier snowpacks are consistent with AGW is his.

I'm not going to look at any of these because I make it a rule not read 'incoherant right wing loonbags, but I concede. I was somewhat ignorant of the level of insanity in the US, my bad. **

Hey, it was your argument.
I recall every hot day, tornado, hurricane, etc., for the last 10 years being blamed on AGW...

Seriously? I recall a lot of jokes about it, but nobody who was actually serious who knew anything about it.
