Health Guru Poisoned by Own Product
Some of you may already be familiar with the controversial health-guru/AIDS-denialist Gary Null. He's a big promoter of alternative medicine and all the associated woo, and makes a living selling books and his own line of supplements - http://www.garynull.com/
Recently, he almost died of a vitamin overdose from one of his own products - http://www.upi.com/Health_News/2010/...7541272476523/ http://www.nydailynews.com/ny_local/...ufacturer.html Quackwatch has been following him for years - http://www.quackwatch.org/04ConsumerEducation/null.html Null is now suing the manufacturer of the product that poisoned him. Some of Null's customers were also sickened and hospitalized, and I'm almost certain they will sue Null, the manufacturer or both if they haven't done so already. While these vitamin D overdoses appear to have been caused by a freak accident(2 million I.Us of vitamin D per day?!), it would be interesting to see what this does to his career. How much will this damage his credibility and reputation? Is Gary Null finished? |

Let's hope he gets sued into oblivion. Although lawsuits and jail time didn't stop Kevin Trudeau.

...although his suing of the Manufacturer of his own meals might be an attempt to push blame elsewhere than himself. Could his poisoning be a clever ruse? (a little extreme though)

I don't see this doing anything bad to his career. The important point here is that no matter how wooish his claims and products are, the problem here was nothing to do with that and was appears to be entirely the manufacturers fault. He may well be a terrible person who should be prevented from making dangerous claims, but in this case I'm entirely on his side - the manufacturer failed to correctly produce or check its products and deserves to be sued into the ground, if not face criminal charges.
Given that Gary is clearly not at fault here, I think his career is likely to get a boost from all the extra publicity, especially since it shows that he believes in his own products enough to use them himself. |

I have thought about that "ruse" possibility as well. Of course, this would require his doctors close participation as well as his lawyer and business associates. A conspiracy in other words. It's a bit surprising that he would regularly use one of his own products to say the least.
Unlike Kevin Trudeau, G.N sells his own line of supplements(as well as books, does documentaries about health, claims vaccines cause autism, is probably a creationist, defends and advocates homeopathy and chiropractic, etc), so this could have a more significant economic impact on G.N than on Trudeau who just sells books and does infomercials. G.N claims to be a scientist or claims he was a scientist while bashing vaccines - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-xG_Yxj8PE. Like Trudeau, he routinely bashes mainstream medicine and the pharmaceutical industry. G.N used to have a radio show at WBAI-Pacifica(NY's far-left public radio station) years ago, but his show was canceled since the station management thought he was too commercial and too right-wing. He still hosts radio shows on other stations and on the net where he promotes his supplements. Hopefully, justice will be served, although I'm generally not in favor of passing more laws against supplements/drugs/health products. This has only just begun. |

I don't know why you started two different threads, but I'll write the same thing here that I wrote in the other one.
The guy may be a quack and a fraud, but if the claims he is making in the lawsuit are true, he probably deserves to be compensated. |

I was unable to return to this thread to see the responses for some reason. The screen would just freeze up, but now I can return. I started the other thread just in case. Forum administrators can cancel the new thread if they wish.
Anyway, I'm waiting to see what the lawsuits from angry former Gary Null customers have to say, before I weigh in on whether or not I believe Null deserves compensation from the manufacturer of his product. |

Well, I probably wouldn't believe this quack if he told me that grass was green, but he could be telling the truth here. Fortunately, his claims should be relatively easy to verify if they are true.
