Annual begathon

Folks,

Well, it's that time of year again, where I start begging for people to make donations to the TAM8 forum grant (scholarship) fund. Something extraordinary has happened this year: We have awarded 24 forum grants so far, but there are still 62 people on the request list. This TAM thing is simply way too popular.

So if someone could donate about $23,000, that would cover everyone on the list. Short of that, we need each of you to donate a little bit. That will help bring a few of those worthy people to TAM8. Kitty's scholarship auction is certainly helping the effort. Thanks, Kitty!

To make a donation, please visit:

How does this number (24) compare to prior years?

Last year we awarded 41 grants. I think the economy is having a real effect this year. In particular, almost everyone needs a full grant rather than a partial grant.

I'm trying to get a few friends to come. I mentioned the grants, but wasn't sure what it covered. Is it just registration? Airfare? What else?

Just covers TAM registration. Transport is still up to the individual. The link in Paul's OP has got some info that might be helpful for your friends.

At this point I think it's too late to apply. There is no chance we will get enough donations for the 62 people already waiting.

The next person in line for a forum grant is a forum member, JREF member, and student. I'd love to get him to TAM. We need $125 and we'll have enough funds to cover his registration.

$50 each from a few of you will do the trick!

Paul, how's it looking for that student now? You can PM me if you like.

We still need $50. I've awarded him a forum grant in anticipation of one more donation.

And that brings the next person to TAM. Thanks, Mattus!
