Hitchens on Mark Lane...

This is from an interview in the Washington Post:

Quote:
Between the first bottle of pinot noir and the second, Hitchens excuses himself from the table. When he returns, an attractive young woman calls out to him from a neighboring table.

"What do you think of Mark Lane?" she asks, referring to the author, lawyer and Kennedy assassination conspiracy theorist.

"He's a crackpot!" Hitchens roars. The woman stammers something about filming a documentary on Lane, but Hitchens is on a roll. "Pure and simple nut bag," he says. "He's a garden-variety loon. You're too young to be doing this."

Does anyone still take Mark Lane seriously, apart from this lady?

That "lady" was the glorious Pauley Perrette

and her film about Mark Lane, called Citizen Lane (geddit?), was released back in March according to imdb.com.

Hichens has nailed Lane exactly. Lane is the founding father of the JFK nonsense, although in sheer looniness his belief that the CIA was behind the Jonestown massacre beats the JFK BS by a mile.

So Abby Sciuto is a nutcase? Who would've thought.

To be fair, the film might not be pro Lane. I am hoping that Parette's knowledge of Forensics (she actually has a BA in Forensic science and that was her career go with music and acting as a sideline before her career took off) would keep her from buying into Lane's nonsense.

In a really, really strange twist, apparently Gerald Posner does:

Quote:
Disgraced Miami Beach author Gerald Posner is desperate. He apparently whitewashed an account of his serial plagiarism on his Wikipedia page, then threatened Miami New Times with a lawsuit for writing about it. And now he's retained an 83-year-old lawyer infamous for publicizing the "grassy knoll" theory of John F. Kennedy's assassination, a conspiracy Posner refuted in his most famous book.
The plagiarism charges seem pretty serious.

Let's face it, Hichens is not happy unless he is in a fight.

FTFY.

I love Hitchens, there are videos of him dragging some crazy guy who was at one of his lectures because he was bugging him all night.

We can always hope. However, sometimes a modicum of expertise (and BA doesn't really require more than that) is what enables you to go wrong with confidence.

Oh my word! Mark Lane has become Gerald Posner's lawyer!?

It's quite sad to see what has happened to Posner. I had read about his plagiarism but the weird thing is that very little of what he plagiarised was actually worth plagiarising. It was more like humdrum descriptions of certain crimes taken from local newspapers.

BTW Brainster, speaking of the P word, did you get any contact from the author who...erm... borrowed some of your work without attribution?

Indeed, it perhaps allows you to "go rogue."

.
A Master's, OTOH (which is what PP reportedly has,) suggests more than a modicum.

My buddie T is a production assistant on the set of NCIS, I have a call in to zie to ask about the mood of this movie but she's currently in India doing charity work and I cannot remember when zie is going to be back

Maybe all the Caf-Pow makes her vulnerable to suggestion.

If your buddy doesn't mind a slap in the back of the head, tell him to say hello to Gibbs from my wife and me.
