#1. Moving the GZ mosque to 12th street and 7th avenue would end any concern about the mosque being part of some evil Muslim terrorist plot to build a monument on the ashes of the dead.

#2. Reopening St. Vincent's Hospital as part of the deal, would be an unimaginably wonderful gift to the people of lower Manhattan. St. Vincent's Hospital was the number one trauma center opened to take in 9-11 survivors injured from the collapses.

I say..its a good deal. Especially with the hospital component.

Sounds like a good deal if you want the Saudi royals to have a greater influence on the Muslim community in New York, instead of the liberal Sufis who planned the centre.

Pretty much, yeah.

And regarding the OP's point #1, having the entire thing bought and paid for by the Saudis would have the exact opposite effect on all those people alarmed at the prospect of this mosque and community center being used as a Saudi-influenced front for extremist Islam.

Yes, it does appear that due to the pressure of anti-Muslim bigots, the moderate and inclusive Cordoba center may become a Saudi-funded mosque/community center. I wonder how moderate and inclusive they will be now.

So far, we just have Dudley Gaffin saying he knows the Saudis and wants to get them to bid. There's no confirmation from the Saudi Royal Family.

We also have no reaction from the Cordoba group. Since the source of this was The Post, I'll wait until there's something concrete.
