Does anyone hate Jesus?

"Jesus loves all of us, even those that hate him..."

This was posted on Facebook by an acquaintance of mine, and I wondered: "Does anybody really 'hate' Jesus?"

I'm a skeptic and polyatheist, but I hate Jesus no more than I do any other deity or fictional hero: Thor, Zeus, Krishna, Santa Claus, Peter Pan, Superman, etc. In fact, I think most of them are pretty cool, in the same way I like Yoda and Gandalf.

Anyone out there really hate Jesus, and if so, why?

Why would I hate him? He's a myth, a work of fiction. What I hate are some of the things done in the name of that myth.

It is pretty dickish to condition eternal bliss on believing the hodge-podge of insane claims and conflicting stories he left behind.

I agree it would be silly to hate Jesus--just as it would be silly to hate any other mythological figure.

I may hate (well, that's a strong word--maybe strongly dislike) efforts to force Jesus down my throat.

I don't hate Jesus.

Boiled okra is another matter. I HATE whole boiled okra.

I don't mean that I dislike boiled okra. I mean I have bad dreams about it. I dream I'm at a batting-range splattering slimy boiled okra with a baseball bat.

Jesus doesn't even figure compared to the active 24/7 hatred I have for slimy green whole boiled okra.

I'm sure most of you can identify with that - especially those who work with elephants having chronic sinus infections.

I'm glad we had this little talk.

I think that when a Christian claims somebody "hates" Jesus, what he really means is that person hasn't accepted Jesus as a personal savior.

Similar to an atheist not believing in a particular god is equated with "hating" him.

Quote:
Matthew 8:28-34 says, "When he arrived at the other side in the region of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men coming from the tombs met him. They were so violent that no one could pass that way. 'What do you want with us, Son of God?' they shouted. 'Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?' Some distance from them a large herd of pigs was feeding. The demons begged Jesus, 'If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs.' He said to them, 'Go!' So they came out and went into the pigs, and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and died in the water. Those tending the pigs ran off, went into the town and reported all this, including what had happened to the demon-possessed men. Then the whole town went out to meet Jesus. And when they saw him, they pleaded with him to leave their region."
http://www.allaboutjesuschrist.org/j...o-pigs-faq.htm

The guy that owned those pigs probably didn't like him all that much. That's likely why they told him to get the hell out of there, "Yeah, Jesus, I know you say there were demons, but it sort of looked like you just chased our pigs off a cliff. Tell you what, if you just get out of here, we won't beat you up."

I feel no hatred for the fictional Jesus nor the person on whom that fictional character was very loosely based.

154 created a thread a little while ago in which he accused people of hating Jesus. It was the usual train-wreck.

He strongly impled that every atheist who didn't admit hating Jesus were liars, too.

I know he was suspended, I don't know if he never came back or if he went the well-trodden path of sending abusive PMs whilst on suspension.

Oh, and mark me down as someone else who doesn't hate Jesus. I hate some of the things that have been done in his name, but hate the guy himself? Nah. Don't think he existed and the story never got me involved enough to have any strong reaction to him.

I don't know. Does anyone hate poverty? I guess if you hate poverty you hate Jesus.

Does anyone hate people who thought the Earth is flat? Jesus thought the Earth is flat.

Does anyone hate the idea that we should love our enemies who are out to destroy us? That was one of Christ's ideas. And it did not work for him, nor for Ghandi, nor for MLK.

Does anyone hate people who pretend to have all the answers and yet change their mind? Jesus did that too.

Does anyone hate people who make predictions that have to be reinterpreted from their original meaning? Jesus can be blamed for that as well.

What's the point of that statement?
Why exactly would we care if Jesus loves us or not?
If you don't believe in jesus, you don't care, so I don't think this is meant towards atheist.
It would be meant towards those who do believe in Jesus, but hate him, and I don't know of any such people. Do Satan worshippers believe in Jesus? I mean that he lived and was (still is) the son of god?

Wouldn't it make more sense to say 'we, followers of Jesus, love everyone, even those who hate us?'

I hate him for sure. That Bethlehem bastard caused me to lose a girlfriend that I had the smokin' hot hornies for. After being "saved", she declared that she could never be serious with anyone who wasn't saved. She said this to me just after I'd ridden my bicycle 200 miles to see her. Damn you, Jesus. Damn you to hell.

As fictional characters go, Yeshua ha Nostri is pretty harmless, and some of the words attributed to him seem to be good ideas. So, I cannot hate a fictional character. Not even Hannibal Lector, who as a fictional character was NOT harmless.

You're absolutely right. If there is one thing I hate more than Jesus for being a Myth, it's people nailing imaginary, fictional people on crosses.

I'm finding it quite fascinating that so many people here are describing Jesus as a myth.

Alexander the Great believed he was a descendant of Hercules and yet no one seems to question whether he was a real person.

I have no problem believing there was a guy named jesus that got nailed on a cross.

my problems only start when he claims there is a god. But weirdos dont have to be nailed on crosses.
