I suspect this very question passed the minds of some Argentinian generals at some point in time.

There's an app a smiley for that.

More on topic, pretty much what everyone else already said. Wars are very different from personal violence. Even if you accept that women are less likely to get into bar fights, that doesn't necessarily make them less likely to send their country to war. You don't get into wars because you're drunk and he shouldn't have said that about our mum, you get into them for a variety of reasons that affect the country as a whole. Since having women in charge wouldn't change the basic makeup of the country, why assume that the leaders would not just make the same decisions?

Blimey! Why has no-one ever put this idea forward as the way to world peace before? Save all that palaver with air to surface missiles and such like. All we need is some jello, some wet T-shirts, and some ladies.

Hi Debaser.
I think what you were talking about; ie: the people who over estimate their abilities in leadership ending up being leaders, even though theyre worst suited to it, while those who are best suited to it underestimate their abilities, might be referred to as the " Dunning-Kruger Effect"?
Richard Dawkins also said something to this effect about the religious in america - I cant remember exactly how he said it, but it was a pretty succinct and pithy observation.

There was a survey done in this country a while ago by the Automobile Association on driving skills. Typical humans. 80%+ of respondents rated their driving as well above average. Ha ha

Anway - Thanks 23 Tauri for starting this one - I've found it really interesting reading peoples thoughts on this, as its something I've wondered about many many times over the years. And I guess I have to agree, that nothing much would really change.
Except the increased length of time that grudges would be held. Japan would have had to wait another 900 years to get any sort of army...And some countries would be 'periodically' attacked for not correctly guessing what the other country was thinking and feeling.

Well, there might or might not be war.

But I know for a fact there'd be a lot of bitching.

Hi I Ratant.
This is a bit off topic, but I simply HAVE to say it.
I've read a LOT of forums here in JREF, having come via one of my favourite podcasts - Skeptoid, and up till now, havent really posted. Kind of getting the feel type thing, before jumping straight in and making a goose of myself. Not that its avoidable in any way.
I have a colony of ants living in my laptop. They are good tenants, and clean any and all food crumbs, sweet sticky liquids, etc. At all times, there will be 1 - 3 ants on patrol duty, just sniffing around the keyboard and screen. If one walks on the screen, and angers me, the computer overlord, it gets promptly squashed. The ants never seem to run out - there is always a steady supply of them.
Since I found the JREF forums, if I had a dollar for everytime I carefully lined up and jabbed your ant giff icon, I would be really rich by now! The damn thing just gets me every time. The other night in bed, my wife reached over and poked at it even, before realising it wasnt an ant, and feeling silly!
Well - apologies again for the meandering, but I simply had to say that. Damn ants...

Long as we're taking about your avatar, when I first saw it I placidly stared at it for a minute thinking it was a bug. When I noticed it kept doing a figure 8 I was wondering if it had a brain parasite or some other defect. Then I realized I'd been fooled

Also, Jono74 is one of the most ant tolerant people I've heard of. Isn't there a risk of ants damaging the laptop? The first "computer bug" was a moth getting stuck in the hardware, and also fire ants in Texas will sometimes cause problems crawling inside electrical circuits and traffic lights. I wouldn't be comfortable with ants inside my computer.

Yeah, I'll bet you get that a LOT! Funny stuff....
That was certainly an inspired choice, and it must be getting phenomenal mileage....

Hi Crocoshark (kind of like croco-duck, but even meaner?!)
I actually LOL'd out loud at you wondering if it had a brain parasite, or other defect! Too funny!!!
Re laptop ants: Yeah - I'm pretty tolerant I guess, but try as i might, I cant seem to banish them and am afraid of hurting the laptop with flysprays etc. We also have a colony of them living in the car, in the middle bit where drinks go. Cunning little things. This place we are in has a huge ant problem, but soon it will get too cold for them. They arent conductive, I assume, as they never short out laptop. Not that I could tell - its that slow anyway - cant even tolerate playing a vid and moving cursor at same time - lol.
My wife is training the ants to live outside, by feeding them their favourite - WET JELLYBEANS! YUM say the ants!!
The only prob is sometimes an ant for some unknown reason, will bite one of us hard, when in bed, and just for no reason. Other than that, they're sweet as.
Yeah - I was naieve to think a world ruled by women would be any more peaceful. Leaders, presidents, P.M's etc just seem to be figureheads anyway, with most actions etc being really made by the governments. Maybe if the entire apparatus was constructed entirely of females.....? Hmmm.....
