Why is there no life on Mars?

Because Hugo Chavez thinks that capitalism destroyed it.

Quote:
I have always said, heard, that it would not be strange that there had been civilization on Mars, but maybe capitalism arrived there, imperialism arrived and finished off the planet," Chavez said in a speech on Tuesday.

So I was thinking I could post something scientific. Then I noticed it was in the Conspiracy Theories group and I also read the OP.

http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2011/...#ixzz1HT8o9Srj

Hugo Chavez does not sound any wackier than Randi Rhodes. I like to listen to her show. She says that since the 9-11 hijackers were mostly Saudi, Saudi Arabia, not Al Qaeda (somehow) attacked the USA.

Communism destroyed life on Mars. It is the Red Planet, after all.

Do you think that Chavez saying that capitalism might have destroyed a civilization on Mars should be discussed seriously?

Maybe, except for the fact the Hugo Chaves is the dictator of a very influential Nation in South America.

Not really very funny, is it?

It wasn't capitalists. It was the Martian gays.

And we're back to our favorite scapegoats...

It's hard for some people to criticize Chávez for what he said, it's a difficult position to hold, so it's much more easier to blame US Christians. Like a pair of old slippers.

Huh? What Chavez said was stupid. Just because I make fun of other loons doesn't mean I'm letting him off the hook. Furthermore, I'm making fun of Pat Robertson style Christians, not all Cristians.

It's always the same thing on these boards.

Chávez sais something stupid? Some poster comes in and says US Christians say much crazier things.

Ahmadinejad says something awful? Some poster comes in and says US Christians say much worse.

It's like an obsessive thought, it always comes back the the same thing. It's like you're caught in a loophole. Chávez can't be held accountable for what he said, no, US Christians have to be blamed for what he said.

Did I suggest that? I even specifically stated that what Chavez said was stupid. I brought up evangelical Christianity because it is the most prominent apocalyptic movement I am aware of. Just a cheap joke. You are being overly defensive.

I have no sympathy for Chavez, but couldn't this comment have been made in jest? Or just some sort of poetic license?
Do we have the remark in context?

Funny... the most pervasive tendency for such things here on the board is for conservaties to spam threads about conservatives´ misdeeds with "but the leftists...".

Actually Chavez really is a CT nutjob. He doubts that American really went to the moon, citing the "wind on the moon" evidence.

http://www.slate.com/id/2262520/

Christopher Hitchens spent some time with Chavez and he seems to believe he really is as nutty as a fruitcake.
