impossible to register for Apple ID?

I've been trying to get on Apple ID, with no luck.

Every time I fill out the form, I'm informed that the email address I've come up with is unacceptable.

I've tried my name @apple.com and various exotic ideas that I'm sure are not registered yet.

WTF is going on?

When you make an AppleID, you need to give it an already-existing valid email address.

Oh Duh!

I was thrown off by the example email address which was an @apple.com
plus I thought the account came with an email address.

Problem solved.
