Who is tired of the childish behaviors?

Remember in school, you called that one guy "Dorkson" instead of Dickson, or maybe "Lame" instead of "Jane"?

Now you're a grown up. You don't have to call the President "OBummer" or the presumed challenger "Mittens Money". Who is tired of the childish name-calling and wish other people would just maintain a level of decency while still being able to disagree with the viewpoints of the opposing side?

ETA: Yes, I did mean complimentary, as in "Free complimentary name calling with every order"

Keep the childish names. It allows me to know, with a quick review, which posts to ignore. And by extension for those who can't grow up, which posters to ignore.

I'm Anna and I freakin' hate bananas! Two co-workers make fun of people's names all the time. A Manager with the last name of Fortsyn was always called Foreskin - juvenile stuff like that. I consider it highly juvenile.

"Fartsyn" would have been much better.

First they came for the Repugnicans,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Repugnican.

Then they came for Mittens,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Mitten.

Then they came for the libruls,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a librul.

Then they came for the Republicons,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Republicon.

Then they came for me,
but Socialist was already bad enough, so I was cool.

As jokes, they have a time and place. That time and place is not during what is supposed to be rational political discourse (you're welcome for setting up that joke for someone to knock down).

I don't dismiss or outright ignore people who use such insults completely, but I can't blame those who do. Most of the time they are not going to change their view, or even consider what others have to say.

I am absolutely sick of it. Just today I got saw an image on my facebook page that pissed me right the : off:

The associated text?

Obama on the left during the Russian national anthem and on the right during ours.

What's really happening on the right? Obama just got on stage about 3 seconds prior, and others are reacting to the playing of "Hail to the Chief", and it's actually Memorial Day.

Naturally this flies over the heads of Joe America:

"The Crotch Salute"?
"Illegal Aliean hold ing publick Office!!"
"Traitor"
"WTF???? No salute or any show of respect on Veterans Day? Kick his ass to the curb!!!"

Naturally, when shown that this is total and 100% fabricated baloney, nobody seems to care that they were duped.

I'm starting to get a seething hatred of both this f'n country and the f'n internet.

For what ever reason people love being offended and also love to debate Obama's patriotism or "Americanness".

It's just like the "lost in translation" moments when the Obama's met with the Queen of England and apparently crossed the lines of appropriate protocol with perfectly innocuous gestures and the media (particularly Fox News) took it and ran with it and his detractors act as if it's a sign of Obama's brutishness or lack of civility.

I find solace in a simple statement that is continually proven true. "People are stupid."

The intertoobz make people more stupid though. Because now they have a platform that can show that stupidity to tens of thousands of equally stupid people. Next thing you know a blatant lie is forming the opinion of the masses.

It's retarded. And I'm tired of it.

LOL

I don't begrudge anyone the right to sound like a 5 year old. I just wanted to do a poll to find out if I was the only one who was sick of seeing the candidates referred to in a disrespectful manner. It's as if that was going to somehow change my opinion. I'm open and willing to listen to criticisms of either candidate, but name calling just makes me think the criticism is no more valid than a school kid chant like "Joe, Joe, the big fat schmoe" or something like that (LOL, no slight intended on you Joe)

That's a good one, I haven't heard it before.

Yes, I agree. Namecalling is a type of argument from emotion. If you use it, it signifies your position is probably weak and you are running out of arguments.

I have used it a few times recently to mock people who use it against me, clearly spelling that out that that's all they deserve.

I will say that some people deserve as much ridicule as can be dished out.

Limbaugh is one.

And almost any of the TV Evangelists.

And Kevin Trudeau. (But I can't think of a good one for him.)

Yeah, I wasn't singling lefty out as the only name-caller, it's just that three of the five examples were ones he's fond of using.

Don't let it get to you, everyone. Some people are just like that, and nothing's going to change it. If you can't just let it roll off your back, you're going to get an ulcer if you hang around here long enough.

And here we have why the Politics section of JREF has such a low reputation on thise boards...

http://forums.randi.org/showthread.php?t=234315

Dragging something that happened 30 years ago out and trying to make a campaign issue out of it. Pathetic. Sad thing is if this was reversed and Obama was accused of having done this, the same people who are making an big deal about this would be screaming how unfair and irrevelent it is and had nothing to do with a person's fitness as presidency

Another problem is people getting on their high horses and dismissing other posters because they are "above it all"...

Bringing claims of hypothetical mind reading into another thread is just unnecessary.

Side A does it to side B, side B whines about how Side A would argue it isn't fair, and vice versa. What is the point of even saying this anymore?

If we take away silly name calling of people with differing political views, I can think of at least one poster that would be unable to ever post again.

I got at least three. Maybe four, if we include passive-aggressive indirect name-calling. "That opinion is self-centered and authoritarian. Stop trying to personalize the debate."

I'm glad somebody said it. it does my head in. Sometimes it's like watching children bicker. Or like being in the house of commons.

If one's point has merit, name calling is not necessary and detracts from the point.

If one's point has no merit, no amount of creative name-calling is going to help.

I remember seeing a King of the Hill ad where Hank says, "I think body piercings are a good thing. That way, you can tell if something's not right with a person."

The original formulation had somewhat stronger language.
