Sylvia Browne Live

I have two tickets to see her show this week. Don't worry, I didn't pay for them. Apparently she venue has to give them away to fill the room. If she asks me if I have a question for her, what do you think a good response would be? I would like to point her out as a fraud, but would not like to be sued or ushered out by security.

Tell her to see if she can contact your dead relative that isn't really dead and while she feeds you her BS nod politely and after she finishes say" Ha! i was just kidding, that person is completely made up and yer a phoney!

So, you get thrown out, they can't arrest you or anything. And for her to sue you , she would have to prove her "powers" are real.

Plus what a fun story to tell us later!!!

You don't have to make a scene. It would still be interesting to report back here later if you just said something like, "Will my uncle Jack ever be found?" With the point of course being that Uncle Jack doesn't exist. She will say yes or no and you can come back here and report.

But you might want to change it a little in case any of her cronies still read this site.

If you ask her to come up with your middle name, or something that is obviously challenging/hostile, I think she is likely to just get irritated and wave you away, unless you catch her totally by surprise.

Questions used to be asked on a lottery system based on your ticket number. If the room is that empty, it is probably much more likely that you will have a chance to ask something.

Read over Robert Lancaster's article over at stopsylvia.com. He attended one of her shows a couple of years ago.

I thought his approach was great.

Suggest you send a Private Message to RSLancastr asking that question. I am sure he will have a good answer.

Also suggest that you do not discuss what you are doing in public. Assume (as ExMinister pointed out) that Sylvia's cronies will be reading this thread. Do not give a clue as to what performance you will be attending. Otherwise she will be on the lookout for you there.

Wait a day or so after the performance before you report that you have been there. Then she might think that you will turn up to a later performance.

Maybe just ask a straightforward question, like: "What do you tell people when it is shown you were wrong about your (spirit communication, prediction, etc)?

It could be interesting to see where she goes with the answer.

I thought his approach was great.
The e-mail exchange at the end was great. It appears he actually got through to a Browne believer.

I think you're giving her way too much credit. She does these shows here in Vegas all the time. I seriously doubt she has people infiltrate forums, look for people who might cause a stir at one of her small shows, note their name and background, bring it to every single performance and try to match it up to a guest list (which they don't have) and then 86 them from the show. Aint gonna happen.

That certainly may be true. But it is well known to her crowd who Robert Lancaster is and he posts often here in the JREF. And her crew has certainly kept track of his doings in the past.

However, since no one knows who 'fastrudy' might be, they'll have no way to be on the lookout for anyone. Until they ask their loaded question, that is. But I doubt fastrudy will be the only one asking a question to try and catch Sylvia.

Oh, and I think maybe I'd say I'm tracing my roots ask Sylvia to get in touch with my Grandmother and ask where she was born.
(Of course I already know that).

I went to the show with my wife on Tuesday at the Imperial Palace in Las Vegas. Apparently, there are two paid sections and one unpaid (General Admission) section in the small theater. The line of people waiting to get in was impressive. While in line, one of Sylvia's 'ministers' was passing out information about her new Church, books and jewellery for sale and private sessions with her son for $750/hr. I had a question for her, but none of the zero pay admission section were allowed to ask any questions.
There were VIP tables arranged so that their ends were up against the stage. The price of these were ~$125 each. About 50 people were VIP.
The was a second tier of tables further from the stage. I do not know the cost of these seats. The GA tickets were furthest from the stage. This is where we were seated. These seats had an advantage, they were closest to the door.
The show started promptly, the lights went on and sitting, as if on a throne, was Sylvia Browne. There was a small table next to her and two potted plants. She was taking into a large boom microphone. She explained that she had had an accident and had broken her hand. I wondered why she didn't see that coming. She thanked her followers for being there and proceeded to read from a single sheet of paper that was on the table. It was simply a list of things that she believed in and wise sayings that she enjoyed. I felt like I was in Church. The other non-Christians in that room would certainly be offended while she went on about, "Moses, Mary the miracle worker & mother of God, our Lord, Jesus." She said we all had Spiritual Guides that travelled with us. Hers was 'Francine'. I don't know my Guide's name, but I wish he would tell me the winner of the Derby today. Her new Church is Christian based with more woo-woo. I thought that this talk was lasting an hour and a half, but it was only one half hour (just like my old memories of Church).
Then she engaged some of the audience in a breathing and close your eyes-clear your mind excercise. The new age music that played during this sounded something like "Shine on you crazy diamond Part I", but of course it wasn't. After the mind clearing, all of the VIP guests were lined up by Sylvia's ministers (usherettes) and were allowed one question. Some just wanted to know the name of their spirit guide. Most wanted to know if their dead relatives had any communications for them or if they were in a better place. I was shocked by the number of questions from people whose relatives were murdered. Wanting to know if they will catch the killer or get evidence to bring the alleged killer to trial. My wife commented that she could do what Sylvia was doing as far as the lame answers to the questions being asked.
She got applause when she said, "I don't think Obama is going to be our President next year.". You would expect applause from Nevada, but it was one of the few predictions that she made. She also said that the war has gone on too long and we should bring our troops home.
The second tier ticketholders were chosen by lottery and they also asked questions that were cold-read by Sylvia, or she answered vaguely. She did nothing impressive during the entire performance. One elderly man asked about his passed wife and Sylvia daringly asked, "What was wrong with her leg?" The man answered, "Diabetes." Some other Sylvia answers about dead relatives: "She is sitting on your shoulder";"He sits on the end of your bed each night"; "She wants to thank you for all you did".

The GA people asked no questions, but we were allowed to leave first. I will never go again.

Interesting, fastrudy.

To me, what stood out was her reading from a piece of paper and the church-like atmosphere. For the majority of her lecture years she was always more of a stand-up comedian, though in more recent years she has had to sit. I have never ever seen her read from notes and the atmosphere was not at all church-like.

Otherwise the Q&A sounds much like all the others.

I gotta question for Sylvia!-
If your powers are awesome and truly supernatural, why haven't you claimed Randi's million-buck prize long before now?

Funny thing is; If she claims that she doesn't want the money, then she can donate it to charity.

If she doesn't trust the person(s) administering the test, then she can specifically cite why (since she has the gift to know those specifics).

I don't know which other reasons she might (have) give(n), but at least those two won't suffice.

Well Sylvia has been very busy, and it is just a matter of time until she gets around to taking the MDC, I'm sure.

The last thing I read in some book years ago is that she wouldn't want to take the test from an atheist, or something to that effect.

Princess Diana used to consult psychics and fortune-tellers, she was seen being helicoptered in to consult one in the countryside just two weeks before she was killed.
Obviously none of them warned her- "Don't go riding round Paris at high speed with a drunk chauffeur late at night"..

Ha!

Thanks for the report. Interesting that she's ended up at the Imperial Palace. IMO, the worst casino/hotel on the strip. She's been replaced at the Excalibur by Carrot Top it appears. My how the mighty have fallen.

Very interesting, Fastrudy, and not what I would have expected. I mean, I did expect the VIP thing and the GA seating, and her sitting on a throne or a couch, but I never expected her to read from a sheet. She's usually, as Ex-Minister said, a person who speaks off the cuff, directly to her audience, and even can be funny sometimes. Her humour is one of the things I used to like about her. Now I don't find her funny at all...

That show sounds like it is her getting too tired to do her schtick, but still wants (or needs) the money, so on she goes. Just like the Energizer Bunny. On and on and on and on...

About 10 years ago, my sister and I took my mother to see Sylvia at The Westbury Music Fair here on Long Island. This was around the time when my sister and mother were big believers in her and my beliefs in woo were beginning to wane. I'd always been skeptical of the paranormal, but still leaned heavily on the side of belief.

It was very much like fasturdy described in his account with less preaching and she had an opening act, Gordon Smith, who I will say was quite entertaining.

At the time, Sylvia was of the Gnostic persuasion. She would toss out a few laughs, make her vague predictions, etc. Then we had nap time, I mean "meditation".

She went on about spirit guides, hawking her many books with emphasis on the new one at the moment. And the topper was that creatures like Bigfoot, Aliens, Nessie, Chupacabra, etc. were real but they didn't exist on this plane of reality. They were from a parallel universe and people see them because there was a brief break in the fabric between the two. And that would be why we can never find them and never will!

Near the end she did a few readings. One of my favorites was a woman who basically called her bluff. The woman had been to a Montel taping and Sylvia told her that her health problem was fibromyalgia. The woman went to her doctor who said Sylvia was nuts and didn't know what she was talking about. Sylvia's talons started clicking. She was getting steamed and said, "Well, it is. Tell him to do the right tests." Then the woman said she had also called Sylvia on her radio show and Sylvia told her it was something else. The woman went to answer but Sylvia kept interrupting her and telling her that the doctor was wrong and she needed a second opinion, which the woman had done. Eventually, the woman was ushered away from the mic and Sylvia berated her for not believing.

I hope you have fun at the Sylvia Extravaganza.

I wonder if she is getting Alzheimer's. It seemed like after the Montel show ended and he was traveling with her doing the lectures, people would say that he seemed to sort of intervene and get her back on track, or repeat things she couldn't hear or misunderstood.

You know, that DOES explain a few things, now that you mention it.

Remember how Robert said that Sylvia said at the Vegas show that "Someone will take care of you," and when he bent down and asked her to repeat herself so he could be certain, that her attendant guiding her wheelchair quickly turned her around and took off?

I believe that I read that she herself said she would live to 92 with her faculties intact. No matter how much I don't care for her, I hope she doesn't end up with Alzheimer's. I don't wish that on anyone. My uncle has severe dementia and this has been a horrible strain on him and the family.

Yeah, I wouldn't wish it on her either. But I do wonder. Especially with what fastrudy said about her reading the lecture from notes.

I thought his approach was great.
From Robert's article:
Quote:
When Browne answered the first part of my question, I thought that she said "San Francisco University," but my wife, who was under less pressure at the moment, insists that she said "University of San Francisco."
She also insists that Browne said that she graduated in "Nineteen eighty...something," while I remember her saying "Nineteen eighty...two or something.".
Either way, I will be investigating this claim to see whether or not there is any evidence to support it.
So Robert, did you ever verify her degree? It's not mentioned on that page whether or not you did.
